Omar Dadabhoy, a longtime community development professional, has been selected as the city of Aliso Viejo’s new Director of Planning Services. He takes over the reins from Interim Planning Director Vern Jones on Feb. 8.
Omar brings a wealth of experience to the job, having served as the city of Stanton’s Director of Economic and Community Development since 2009.
In that role, Omar managed a 12-member staff as well as the day-to-day operations of Stanton’s planning, building, code enforcement and parking-control divisions with an annual budget of more than $1.85 million.
During his tenure with Stanton, which began in 2003, Omar accomplished much for the western Orange County city. He streamlined the application process for the public and created the Livable Beach Boulevard Mobility Study to plan for future residential developments and improve the aesthetics of Stanton’s main thoroughfare. The completion of a comprehensive update to the city of Stanton’s General Plan and Zoning Code is also among his many accomplishments.
Omar has bachelor’s degrees in psychology and social behavior and political science as well as a master’s degree in urban and regional planning.
City Manager Dave Doyle says Omar’s blend of experience, education and skills makes him well-suited to meet the needs of the planning department and community.
“As we work together to discuss the future of Aliso Viejo, we need someone at the helm who brings both fresh ideas and an intricate understanding of our city’s planning process,” Doyle said. “Omar’s experience will add tremendous value to our City’s planning efforts.”
