Saddleback Community College continues their FREE Summer of Theatre series with a fully-staged outdoor production of The Music Man for only two performances; Friday, July 21, 2017 – 7:30 pm and Saturday, July 22, 2017 – 7:30 pm
Saddleback’s Summer of Theatre is a summer-long series that strives to bring affordable (it’s free) and quality theatre to the general public in a casual, outdoor venue fit for adults and children alike. The lineup includes two musical theatre productions, one Big Band night, and two Shakespeare plays put on by local theatre company Shakespeare by The Sea.
A musical theatre classic, with book and music by Meredith Willson and Franklin Lacey, The Music Man tells the story of a small, stubborn Iowa town that gets turned on its head by the arrival of a smooth talking con man, Harold Hill. He posses as a music professor bent on forming a boys band with members of the community paying for instruments and instruction. Pandemonium ensues as local piano teacher and community librarian, Marian Paroo, strives to bring the Music Man’s deception to light, while ultimately getting charmed herself.
“This will be my third time working with the Saddleback theatre department and I have had nothing but professional and great experiences!” said Chancey Allen, who is playing Mrs. Paroo . “The thing I like most about working with the Saddleback theatre dept. would most defiantly be the people: directors, stage managers, production team, actors etc. Saddleback theatre dept. has really helped shape me into not just the performer, but the person I am today and I am eternally grateful! Everyone should see Music Man at Saddleback college because this isn’t your ordinary production of The Music Man. This cast is very special and brings the people of River city to life! When seeing this show I guarantee that you will want to get up and sing and dance with Harold Hill, Marian, and the people of River City! We really hope to see all of you there!”
