Upcoming Christmas Events at the Ocean Institute

Enjoy the holiday season at the Ocean Institute!  The Institute will offer a variety of Christmastime events in 2016:

Holiday Parade of Lights Viewing Party – Enjoy the opening night of Dana Point Harbor’s 42nd annual Boat Parade of Lights on Friday, December 9, with a harbor-front view of the route from the Ocean Institute.  The evening will include story-time with a mermaid from Sheroes Entertainment, pictures with Santa on the tall ship Spirit of Dana Point, gourmet hot chocolate and serenading carolers.  Visit the Institute’s Laurena G. Chambers Gift Shop to purchase a discounted, limited edition 2016 Ocean Institute ornament as a keepsake from this beautiful night.  Registration begins Nov. 1.

Under the Sea Holiday Tea – Enjoy an Under the Sea Holiday Tea on the weekend of December 10 & 11, 11-12:30 p.m.  The event includes tea & light finger sandwiches and a visit by mermaid Catalina and pirates from Sheroes Entertainment.  Registration begins Nov. 1.

Parade of Lights Holiday Cruise – The Ocean Institute is pleased to join in Dana Point Harbor’s 42nd annual Boat Parade of Lights on Saturday, December 10, 7 – 9 p.m.  Enjoy a harbor cruise, listen to Christmas music and see the colorfully decorated boats cruising through the harbor.  Sweets, hors d’oeuvres and hot beverages and will be served.  Cost $50 adults, $40 for children ages 3-12.  Cruise information and reservations: (949) 496-2274 or http://www.ocean-institute.org/event/holiday-parade-light-cruise.

 

About the Ocean Institute
The Ocean Institute is an ocean education center that offers in-depth Marine Science, Maritime History and Outdoor Education programs. The facility includes state-of-the-art teaching labs, the Maddie James Seaside Learning Center, two historic tallships, and an oceanographic research vessel. Immersion-based field trips range from one-hour science labs to multi-day programs at sea. All programs are designed to maximize immersion, spark curiosity, and inspire a deep commitment to learning. Ocean-based exhibits are open to the public seven days a week. Visitors can explore the underwater world while participating in fun activities designed to indulge ocean curiosity. Throughout the year, the Ocean Institute also offers organized family programs, summer camps, cruises, tallship sails, and other unique events including our annual Toshiba Tall Ships Festival and the Festival of Whales.
