LECTURE MAY REVEAL HIDDEN MYSTERIES OF MISSION’S ART COLLECTION

Art is more than what meets the eye, often holding mysteries about the work and its artist. Mission San Juan Capistrano’s impressive collection will undergo such revealing scrutiny when Appraiser Sheryl Gillett answers questions about the works during an Art Guild Lecture titled “A Step Back in Time, Treasures from the Mission San Juan Capistrano Collection” on Wednesday, Jan. 18 from 1-2 p.m. in the Mission’s Soldiers Barracks.
Gillett is a member of the College of Fellows of the American Society of Appraisers (ASA), the oldest appraisal organization in the United States. She will conduct the lecture with an eye towards learning about the works’ history. Using what you learn during the lecture, you may be able to discover secrets about your own antique treasures.
Accredited in Antiques, Decorative Arts and Residential Contents, Gillett and partner Stephen Caudana
began Gillett & Caudana Appraisers in 1983. Actively involved in ASA since becoming a member in 1986,
she was voted a Fellow in 2015; served on ASA’s International Board of Governors and for many years on
the Society’s Personal Property Committee. Gillett was an instructor in the Appraisal Studies Certification Program at UC Irvine for 13 years until its conclusion. A second-generation appraiser, she is the granddaughter of John Gillett, a noted Orange County appraiser.
