The city’s youth and community programs in town will benefit from $48,000 in proceeds from the 6th Annual Aliso Viejo Community Cup on June 5.
Net proceeds from the community golf tournament, hosted by the Aliso Viejo Community Foundation, will help support the Aliso Viejo Boys & Girls Club after-school programs at Iglesia Park and other programs offered through the city’s Family Resource Center.
At the City Council’s meeting Wednesday, Robert Bunyan, president of the Aliso Viejo Community Foundation, presented the City with the $48,000 check that will be deposited in the city’s Trust Account. Bunyon posed for photos with Mayor Donald Garcia and Council Member Carmen Cave, who has served as Community Cup chair since its inception.
The golf tournament, which was held at the Aliso Viejo Country Club, was a fun-filled and action-packed event. Several city officials, business owners and others who participated in the annual fundraising golf tournament watched as Orange County Fire Authority helicopters scooped up water from the golf course to help fight a nearby fire.
In addition to supporting the community, golfers competed for coveted titles and the grand “Perpetual Trophy.” Each year the trophy is awarded to the team with the lowest score. The Aliso Viejo Country Club team won that first-place honor.
Intended to memorialize the beginning of a new tradition in Aliso Viejo, the steering committee in 2004 selected the handsome award to carry the winning team’s name inscribed on the trophy base from year to year. The cup is prominently displayed at City Hall throughout the year as a tribute to the sponsors who share in the foundation and city’s vision to sustain a high quality of service to the children and families in town.
