Harvest of Quilts – November 7th and 8th

Date:

Eileen Wintemute, President
Deadline Pressure
Are you feeling it? I am. It is only a few short weeks before the Quilt Show, and the deadline for turning in quilts and other items in the show is this month. At the time of this writing I still have two projects to finish, and a minor improvement to make on a third. I am sure I will meet the deadline, but the fast-approaching due date is like a hand on my back applying steady pressure to keep moving. I don¡¯t appreciate the push now, but I know that I have completed more work as a result of deadlines than I otherwise would have. So I accept the pressure as a necessary irritant, knowing it is good for me in the long run. I hope you feel the same way. See you soon and keep that needle moving!
Happy Quilting!

Julia Renaud, 1st VP Programs
We will be welcoming Rose Hughes, one of our past Presidents and a 2009 nominee for Quilt Teacher of the Year to our October meeting. Her topic for the evening will be COLOR IT BOLD! Rose says ¨DThis lecture will provide participants with a valuable overview and grounding in color basics, but then takes them far beyond into the exploration of how color can be used to personalize and concretize one¡¯s own vision.¡¬ Our meeting begins at 6:00 p.m. but you are invited to join Rose at 4:30 p.m. for dinner at the IHop Restaurant located at 5301 University Drive, Irvine.
Hope to see you there!

Sandy Sutton, Chair
We are about one month away from our Harvest of Quilts show scheduled for November 7th and 8th. Everything is on track for a spectacular event.
At the October Guild meeting, Quilt Show committee chairs will be asking for help to do several things: setting up, bringing refreshments for vendors, white-gloving, selling tickets, and a variety of other tasks. Please volunteer to help out as much as you can. Let Linda Washington know if you would prefer a sit-down position at the show.
Pre-sale discounted tickets will be available for Guild members at the meeting. Please get yours early!
And get those opportunity quilt tickets sold ¨C we are on schedule to meet our goal if everyone continues to participate. This is critical to help us meet out overall financial goal ¨C and that helps pay for our speakers and programs for the coming year. If you are not comfortable selling tickets to your friends and acquaintances, we would appreciate it if you bought a set for yourself. You just might win that beautifully hand-appliqu¨¦d and hand-quilted jewel!

Becky Reed
One more month to sell those tickets! Stubs and money are due at the October meeting. If you aren’t going to be at the October meeting, send them to me, Becky Reed, at 24916 Hon Ave., Laguna Hills, CA 92653-4302. Please don’t wait until the Quilt Show to turn them in.
To date, 6,692 stubs (from member sales, plus sales at guilds, shows, and other venues) have been turned in, and we have received $5,804.00. When all of the outstanding stubs and money are turned in, and the last few planned shows and guilds are over, plus sales at our own Quilt Show are added in, we should exceed our projected budget amount of $8,000.00. If all tickets are sold, we should hopefully reach $10,000.00!!
Currently the top sellers (who are determined from their ticket sales plus credits accrued for volunteering at events) are:
1. Sharon Ludwig 160
2. Laurie Peden 152
3. Jaye Donato 151
4. Darla Cox 147
5. Lyn Mann 146
BUT this will change as more tickets are turned in. The winner will receive the beautiful quilt ladder made by Carl Peden. Sell those tickets!

The locations and times to drop off or turn in your quilt show items during the week of October 19-25, 2009 are as follows:
Wednesday October 21, 2009 Flying Geese Quilt Shop 4:00 pm ¨C 7:00 pm
Friday October 23, 2009 Flying Geese Quilt Shop 1:30 pm ¨C 5:00 pm
Saturday October 24, 2009 A Time to Sew 11:00 am ¨C 2:00 pm
Quilts to be judged are to be turned in to Pam Hadfield at the October 12th, 2009 Guild meeting. If you are unable to turn in your quilt on October 12th, contact Deborah Stanley to make special arrangements for turn-in no later than 5:00 pm on Saturday, October 17th.
Your name should be covered on your back label with a piece of fabric or painter¡¯s tape. Your quilt will only be known by the entry number to keep the maker unknown during the judging process.
This year, we are going to have an Awards Ceremony identifying guild winners. Each winner will be given a WINNER identification ribbon to be worn at the Quilt Show, along with the ribbon that will be placed on the quilt. The Awards Ceremony will take place during lunch on Friday, the set-up day. We hope to see all of you there to help congratulate all of our winners.
All other quilts and entries can be turned in to Deborah Stanley and Patricia Potter at the October 12th Guild meeting or at the shops during the times noted above. If you are unable to turn in your quilt during these times and need to make special arrangements, contact Deborah by phone or by email.
Upon delivery of your quilt show item(s), you will receive a commemorative label that you can stitch on your item(s) after our show.
In addition, you will receive a claim check which you will need for picking up your quilt show item(s). Please put the claim check in a safe place because we will not accept photocopied receipts at pickup time on Sunday.
On Sunday, November 8, you can pick up your show item(s) from 4:00 ¨C 5:30 pm. If you cannot be there personally, please make arrangements with someone to pick up your item(s). That person must present your claim check.
If you have any questions, contact:
Deborah L. Stanley 949-857-4504 lynstanley@ix.netcom.com
Patricia Potter 949-586-7919
Thank you for being part of our quilt show!
