Dana Point, Calif. – Olympians Dawn Harper and Torri Edwards will join the more than 11,000 participants expected to flock to the Dana Point Harbor on Nov. 26 for the Dana Point Turkey Trot presented by Golden State Foods.
Harper is a US gold medalist in 100 meter hurdles at the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games. She is also the 2009 U.S. Champion in her event and consistently had gold and silver medal finishes throughout her outdoor season this summer. She was featured in the Showtime documentary “Beijing 2008 – America’s Olympic Glory,” which premiered in October.
Edwards won two World Championship gold medals and a bronze in the 4 x 100 relay at the 2000 Olympics. She qualified to the 2008 Olympic Games.
The Olympians will join former UCLA sprinter Craig Everhart to sign autographs and volunteer during the event, which benefits the Second Harvest Food Bank of Orange County.
The Dana Point Turkey Trot 5K and 10K run/walk is one of the largest events in the nation. The Turkey Trot also features the Cox Kids’ Fun Run, a costume contest and more.
The runners always have a good time, with several dressing in costumes appropriate to the season. This is a great event with a simple mantra: “Run so others can eat.”
Online registration is available at www.turkeytrot.com. Turkey trotters can also join the online pledge drive or make a donation to the food bank.
