Corpus Christi – our 11th Annual Parish Thanksgiving Dinner is THIS MONDAY!!!

Date:

Last call…

Mark your calendars for a WONDERFUL Corpus Christi tradition that brings our family together in a delicious and delightful way

…THIS Monday, November 23rd will be the occasion of our 11th Annual Parish Thanksgiving Dinner and YOU are invited. For those new amongst us, the way it works is the parish purchases 50 turkeys and we distribute them to our volunteer ‘cookers’ on the weekend of November 21-22.

These volunteers return the roasted turkeys on Monday night…and the rest of us bring one of the side dishes, a pot-luck of sorts, just make sure that it is enough to give a decent serving for 12+ people.

Dinner gets underway at 6:00 p.m. and did we mention that it is FREE! Yep, just a really cool opportunity for our Corpus Christi family to come together and give thanks for all the blessings God is bestowing on our community.

Mr. Scotty Eisenbart is again coordinating services for the dinner, if you would like to be a part of the team, please give him a call at 395-3073. Sign up tables and sheets are now outside after Mass starting so please sign up to make our Family Thanksgiving bigger and better than ever (and yes, we purchased an additional 8 round tables of 10 to help with our crowds!)

1.Bring a potluck food items that can feed 15-20 people. Vegetables, dressing, mashed taters, whatever.

2. The majority of SET-UP will occur starting at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 22nd. Please note that this is different from previous years…set-up of tables will NOT occur following the noon Mass! If you can help please come by at 3:00 on the 22nd. All our tables and chairs need to be set-up and arranged as well as our food service area.

3. Monday, (November 23rd ) the kitchen crew arrives at 4:00 p.m. Turkey carvers, please bring your own favorite knives/equipment.

4. This year….we HOPE we finally have enough of our own tables and chairs, but, it wouldn’t hurt for you to throw a card table and some folding chairs in your trunk.

5. You are invited to bring a wine or beverage and perhaps a holiday loaf of bread that you will be serving at your own family Thanksgiving celebration. Place it near the altar and we will bless them as a way of connecting what we do in the Church with what you do at your home.

6. Our Thanksgiving Dinner gets underway at 6:00 p.m. (remember, the turkeys need to arrive at 4:00 for proper carving) and the evening comes to a close at 8:00 p.m. Disposable, aluminum pans are the most suitable for containing your food offerings but if you bring an item in a pot or dish please make sure to mark the container clearly with your name AND phone number….and don’t go home without it!

7. Please bring some canned or packaged (non-perishable) food for donation to The South County Food Bank.

8. As mentioned earlier, table set-up and decoration gets underway at 3:00 p.m. TODAY, Sunday, November 22nd and throughout the morning/afternoon on Monday, November 23rd. Decorate well and compete for a special prize! (Remember, if you are using a table for 8 or 10, you need to have 8 or 10 people sitting at it…otherwise you will share your table with others…like any good family would!)

Please remember that we will NOT be setting up dinner tables for our Parish Thanksgiving Dinner immediately after the 12 Noon mass this weekend ! It will occur in a more organized and less aggressive manner at 3:00 p.m.

Please note that there is NO 8:00 a.m. morning Mass on Friday, November 27th , the day after Thanksgiving. Relax, let your food digest and get ready for the First Weekend of Advent on November 28-29.

Please remember that the LAST WEEKEND of each month is our monthly food collection effort to benefit South County Outreach Food Pantry. On the weekend of November 28-29 we will have the big food hamper out on the courtyard… we will also be donating all the food collected at our Thanksgiving Dinner to South County Outreach as well. Thanks.

Our thanks and appreciation to our parishioners who helped Corpus Christi’s star shine bright and beautiful as we hosted ALL the clergy and bishops of the Diocese of Orange for the first-ever ‘Clergy Community Day’ on November 11th. Mayette Ramos along with her co-conspirator John Brady assembled a wondrous team that cooked and served, smiled and chatted, cleaned and got everything back to the way it had been. Marc Jordan insured that every detail was in perfect working order…and of course, thanks to the 12 Noon Mass participants for helping to remove all the chairs from the Grand Hall. Special thanks to ‘Trudi’ for the awesome floral bouquets, they pushed us over the top and had the visiting clergy commenting that it felt like they were at ‘The Montage’! My deepest thanks to everyone who helped. FKB

A Happy and Blessed Thanksgiving to each and every one of you!
