DANA POINT, CA, – The Ocean Institute will join with the Archaeological Institute of America (AIA) to present an Archaeology Fair the weekend of January 9 & 10, 10 a.m. – 3 p.m.
Visitors will enjoy a series of programs and activities designed for anyone interested in learning about ancient cultures, local history, archaeological techniques, technology and cultural preservation. AIA staffers created the fair in 2001 to provide a unique experience that would complement AIA’s annual meeting. Charles W. Steinmetz, a board member of both the AIA and Ocean Institute, helped establish the partnership between the two organizations.
The cost of the event is $6.50 for ages 13+, $4.50 for children ages 3-12, and free for children 2 and under. Visitors ages 4 and up can enjoy a Seafloor Science Cruise at no additional charge. Join Ocean Institute scientists as they deploy a side scan sonar and deep ocean sediment core sampler. Once the ship has returned to the harbor, visitors can enjoy several interactive stations, including ROV driving, seafloor sediment sifting and image identification.
For an additional cost, sail on board the tall ship Spirit of Dana Point. For additional information about the Archaeology Fair, please visit www.ocean-institute.org or call (949) 496-2274.
