DANA POINT, CALIF., January 2010 – Alexander Pain of Dana Point, a 5-year-old battling leukemia, will be honored as the 2010 “Boy of the Year” in the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, Orange County/Inland Empire’s (LLS) 2010 Man & Woman of the Year Campaign.
The campaign kicks off in March and will feature community and business leaders raising money for 10 weeks for blood cancer research. The top fundraisers will earn the titles of 2010 Man & Woman of the Year. Alexander was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL) in 2008 and is currently undergoing treatment.
“As Boy of the Year, Alexander helps put a human face on our cause, serving as an inspiration and offering encouragement to our Man & Woman of the Year candidates,” explained Julia Cohen, the campaign’s manager. “It is our hope that Alexander’s brave struggle against an unpredictable disease will motivate our candidates to make this our best fundraising year ever.”
Alexander’s parents have both been active in LLS fundraising events. Isabel Mattson-Pain, Alexander’s mother, participated in the Nike Woman’s Half Marathon in San Francisco through LLS’ Team In Training® (TNT) program. Alexander’s father, Nick, was a participant in LLS’ regatta series.
Additional candidates are welcome, but must be nominated. To make a nomination, or for more information, please contact Julia Cohen at (714) 481-5609 or Julia.Cohen@lls.org.
