City Council Recognizes South Orange County Patriots, Junior Pee Wee Team
At its January 19th City Council meeting, , the City Council recognized the South Orange County Patriots, Junior Pee Wee Team, for winning the Orange County Junior All-American Football Conference Super Bowl. The Patriots defeated the Inglewood Cherokees on December 5, 2009 to become the Super Bowl Champions.
This group of dedicated young men ages 10 and 11, from throughout South Orange County, worked very hard to earn the title. They practiced 5 days a week during the summer and practiced 3 days a week during the school year. Despite losing several players to injuries, the team stayed together and the injured players continued to support their teammates from the sidelines.

City Council Approves Plans to Construct New Teaching Pool at Crown Valley Community Park
On Tuesday, January 19th, the Laguna Niguel City Council approved plans to construct a new teaching pool at the Crown Valley Community Park. The new pool will replace the current wader pool. The wader pool is small, only 1-foot deep, and has only been used for toddlers. The new teaching pool will be larger and vary in depth from 3 to 4.5 feet. It will be used for swimming instruction and exercise classes. It is anticipated that this project will be completed by mid-summer.
Left Turn Pocket on Golden Lantern & Chapparosa Road to be Lengthened
The existing northbound left-turn pocket on Goldern Lantern at the intersection of Chapparosa Road will be lengthened to accommodate increased demand during peak traffic hours and on weekends. On Tuesday, the City Council awarded a $52,336 contract to Peterson/Chase General Engineering Inc. to complete the project. The project is expected to start within next month and should take about 30 days to complete.
