Author Anushe Shoro (Soka University Class of 2012) and her mother, acclaimed Orange County artist Natasha Shoro, are launching their book Natasha Shoro, The Essence of Being on September 18, 2018, 5:30-7:30 pm, at Soka University’s Ikeda Library 4th Floor Reading Room. This 250-page full-color book was written and edited by Anushe Shoro with essays written by art historians Dr. Roberta Carasso, Marjorie Husain, Meher McArthur, and Dr. Joanna Roche.
The concept behind Natasha Shoro: The Essence of Being is a product of Natasha Shoro’s drive in celebrating her roots and identity through art, and Anushe’s exploration of interconnectedness with her photography and creative writing. This mother-daughter collaboration blossomed at their exhibition in Soka University’s Founders Hall Art Gallery in 2016, when they learned to foster their shared vision of “being” through their art. In developing this vision, both mother and daughter worked to archive and publish Natasha’s life as an artist.
In transcribing her mother’s process of creating art, Anushe writes, “…she is flying when she paints for her wings are like dreams.” Natasha Shoro’s journey over the past five decades has been one of reflecting, dreaming, and being, and this story is interwoven throughout the book with the vibrant colors of the artist’s abundant collection.
As an introspective woman, wife, mother, artist, and art educator, Natasha Shoro has developed a keen philosophy in which she explores the world as a fluid canvas. With childhood memories from traveling to six different countries, Natasha incorporates diverse cultures into her art.
