Free and Open to the Public: Topics Include Coping With Anxiety in Children, Confident Parenting and
Parenting in the Digital World
Aliso Viejo Christian School (AVCS), a highly rated Orange
County private school announced its 2018-19 Distinguished Speaker Series, which includes Dr. Lucy
Vo, Jim Burns, and Clay Cranford. Dr. Lucy Vo, a licensed clinical psychologist with an emphasis in multicultural community psychology will share her insights with parents as it relates to “Navigating Your Child’s Gen Z World”
on Tuesday, October 9, 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. in the Sanctuary at the AVCS Campus, 1 Orion Aliso Viejo,
Calif., 92656. Childcare will be provided for a nominal fee.

According to the Journal of the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, anxiety
disorders are the most common mental health disorders among children and adolescents. Nearly 32
percent of adolescents in the United States have an anxiety disorder.
“We are thrilled to have Dr. Vo speak about the important topic of depression and anxiety in
children. Anxiety in children is often a misunderstood and an under-diagnosed disorder,” said Kalyn
Peterson, principal, AVCS. “It is important to help parents, educators and the community to better
understand and offer tools to cope with anxiety. Dr. Vo’s expertise and experience are invaluable to the
topic of anxiety and depression in children,” she adds.
According to Dr. Vo, a significant factor in more effectively responding to those children who
suffer depression and anxiety is listening and validation. “It is important for each generation to
understand each other’s perspective. By listening and validating one another we are able to reach growth
and increased sensitivity to each other’s viewpoints.”

About Dr. Lucy Vo
Dr. Lucy Vo is a licensed psychologist and founder of the Social Growth Center. She has over a decade
of experience working with children and families impacted by Autism and developmental disabilities.
She has an extensive history of helping people who struggle with mental health problems with expertise
in social skills training, mood disorders, and Autism. Dr. Vo received her bachelor’s degree in
psychology and applied developmental psychology from UCLA and received her doctorate in clinical
psychology from Alliant International University. She is a certified provider from the UCLA PEERS®
Clinic and is bilingual in both Vietnamese and English.
