Spring Events From Sea World

Date:

MARCH 2010

SAN DIEGO BIRD FESTIVAL: SeaWorld’s Bird Department will be participating in the San Diego Bird Festival March 4-6, 2010 at the Marina Village Conference Center in Mission Bay. SeaWorld will be sharing information on recent pelican and clapper rail rehabilitation and release efforts.

SeaWorld has taken in more then 100 brown pelicans in need of rehabilitation since the beginning of the year at the Oiled Wildlife Care Center. SeaWorld’s facility continues the legacy by developing more efficient recovery methods, but primarily focuses efforts on saving the lives of oiled marine mammals and sea birds. SeaWorld’s team members have received state training and certification for animal de-oiling, washing, drying, housing, rehabilitation and supportive care of animals affected by an oil spill. When not being used for oil spill response, the center is used to care for ill or injured animals in SeaWorld’s Animal Rescue and Rehabilitation Program.

Through the program, thousands of animals have been rescued, treated, sheltered and rehabilitated. With an average 200 rescues per year, the animal rescue team routinely rehabilitates and returns approximately 65 percent of the animals to the wild. More then 250 bird species will be represented during the course of the festival. For more information please visit: www.sandiegoaudubon.org.

GET READY TO ‘SPRING INTO NIGHT’: SeaWorld stays open late so guests have more time to enjoy all their SeaWorld favorites, plus special nighttime entertainment during Spring into Night, March 27–April 11, April 17–18 and 24–25. SeaWorld’s springtime soiree features the park’s newest sketch-based comedy sea lion show starring Clyde and Seamore; “Shamu Rocks,” a nighttime killer whale show that takes a musical journey through remarkable settings around the world; and “Shamu’s SkySplash” fireworks each night. Park hours during Spring into Night are 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. For more information, call (800) 25-SHAMU or visit www.seaworldsandiego.com.
