Thrilling Roster of Programming Finishes 18-19 Season at Segerstrom Center for the Arts

Acclaimed musicians, stars of stage and screen, Broadway
blockbusters and international dance make for a most spectacular spring / summer line-up at Segerstrom
Center for the Arts.

There’s something for everyone, from family fare that includes Disney’s Aladdin and
children’s shows in our Family Series, to the American Premiere of the intensely dramatic The
Pygmalion Effect from the renowned Eifman Ballet of St. Petersburg. Broadway fans can welcome
one of their favorite leading ladies, Tony Award® winner Lea Salonga, while classical music lovers will
want to see the Center debut of the Grammy®-winning ensemble Third Coast Percussion performing the
Southern California Premiere of Perpetulum by composer Philip Glass, and so much more!

Eifman Ballet of St. Petersburg: The Pygmalion Effect

Internationally renowned choreographer Boris Eifman brings the
American Premiere of his new work inspired by the Greek myth of a
sculptor, Pygmalion, who falls in love with his own creation.

Mark Morris Dance Group: Pepperland
June 14 – 15, 2019
Segerstrom Hall
Mark Morris Dance Groupe’s unique tribute to the 50th anniversary of
The Beatles’ Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band, resounds with
all the ingenuity, musicality, wit, and humanity for which the company
is known. Pepperland features an original score by Ethan Iverson that
blends arrangements of songs from the ground-breaking album with
new Pepper-inspired pieces.

Come From Away

Roald Dahl’s Charlie and the Chocolate Factory

The Phantom of the Opera
July 10 – 21, 2019

Cameron Mackintosh’s spectacular new production of Andrew Lloyd
Webber’s The Phantom of the Opera will make a triumphant return to
Orange County as part of its North American Tour. This production,
which retains the beloved story and thrilling score, boasts exciting new
special effects, scenic and lighting designs, staging and choreography
and has been hailed by critics as “bigger and better than ever before.”

The Grammy® winner and Center favorite returns with a show that
celebrates the Great American Songbook, honoring some of the
songwriting greats he’s worked with throughout his career.

Lea Salonga
April 5, 2019
Renée and Henry Segerstrom Concert Hall
Lea Salonga won a Tony® Award at age 20 for her performance as Kim
in Miss Saigon and she continues to enthrall audiences with her
powerful, crystal-clear soprano and the emotional depth she brings to
every performance.

Following his performances in the first national tour of Dear Evan
Hansen, the Broadway heartthrob and vocal powerhouse brings his
golden voice and matinee idol looks to the Cabaret for a show filled
with songs and stories from his career on stage and screen.

The acclaimed vocalist’s rich tone, versatile voice and sass-and-brass
personality have taken her from singing backup for artists including
Paul Simon and David Bowie, to recording her own albums and

Takàcs Quartet

Founded in Budapest but now based at the University of Colorado,
Boulder, the quartet brings a new violinist and a program of Haydn,
Bartók and Grieg. Ensemble members include: Edward Dusinberre,
violin; Harumi Rhodes, violin; Geraldine Walther, viola; András Fejér,
cello.

Emerson String Quartet

In a bold intersection of chamber music and theater, the nine-time
Grammy® Award-winning quartet present the West Coast Premiere of a
new work inspired by the life of Dmitri Shostakovich, co-created by
Emerson violinist Philip Setzer. Ensemble members include: Eugene
Drucker, violin; Philip Setzer, violin; Lawrence Dutton, viola; Paul Watkins, cello. Additional performers to
be announced.

If you’re in the room – you’re in the show! Sunjata Kamalenya
(translated: Sunjata for Youth) is a completely interactive production that
celebrates the greatest hero of West African legend, Sunjata Keita, the
first mansa (king) of the ancient Empire of Mali.

Emily Brown and the Thing

Emily Brown and her old grey rabbit Stanley set off on an incredible
adventure in this magical musical show based on the much-loved
children’s book by Cressida Cowell (author of How to Train Your
Dragon).
