The City of Lake Forest today announced a partnership with Ring to provide discounts and rebates for residents who purchase select home security devices. During the program, Lake Forest residents who live in active Neighborhood Watch areas can receive up to $100 off with a promotional code funded by Ring and the City.

The $5,000 approved by the Lake Forest City Council will enable a maximum of 100 residents to participate in the program and receive a discount code on a first-come-first-served basis.
The program provides a $50 credit from Ring and a $50 credit from the City for residents who purchase one of Ring’s approved products, for a total credit of $100. The City is also providing the option of a $50 rebate to residents who choose to buy security-camera products from other companies. Residents should go to www.lakeforestca.gov to confirm they are in an active Neighborhood Watch area. Information can also be found there to start a Neighborhood Watch.
Ring is a security company whose mission is to reduce crime in neighborhoods by offering a range of affordable smart-home security devices and services. The rebate program will incentivize the purchase of Ring Video Doorbells and security devices that connect to the user’s smartphone or tablet via the free Ring app (iOS/Android). Residents are then notified when the motion sensor is activated or if someone rings their doorbell, or they can choose to view the camera’s live video feed at any time. Optional video subscription services are available for purchase to residents who want to save their Ring videos to view or share at a later time.
”Encouraging residents to purchase home-security devices makes great sense to the City,” said Orange County Sheriff’s Department Lt. Brad Valentine, the Chief of Police Services in Lake Forest. “It provides an additional sense of safety for residents and sends a clear message to would-be criminals: ‘You will get caught if you break the law in Lake Forest.’”
Officials at Ring agreed. “We’re excited to partner with Lake Forest to make our Security Doorbells and Cameras available to local residents at an even more affordable cost,” said Jamie Siminoff, Chief Inventor and Founder of Ring. “Even without a Ring device, residents can connect with one another and stay up-to-date on local crime and safety information by downloading the free ‘Neighbors App’ by Ring. When neighbors, the Ring team and local leaders all work together, we can create safer communities and reduce crime in neighborhoods.”
Although Lake Forest has a low crime rate, City officials see home video systems as an electronic neighborhood watch. The rebate program will leverage technology, community support, and strategic partnerships to maximize law enforcement efforts for residential burglaries in an effort to reduce crime.
About the Program
The discount program begins on March 7 at 8 a.m. and will run until the funding limit is reached. To participate in the program, residents will apply via a link on the City’s website. Ring will then provide verified residents with the $100 discount via email Monday-Friday at 3 p.m. Codes should be redeemed at checkout on Ring.com. Please note that addresses will be verified to ensure the location is in an active Neighborhood Watch area. Residents who purchase non-Ring products are eligible for a $50 rebate by filling out an application on the City’s website, www.lakeforestca.gov.
For the full $100 discount, Lake Forest residents in an active Neighborhood Watch program can purchase the following Ring products: Ring Video Doorbell 2, Ring Video Doorbell Pro, Ring Spotlight Cam Wired, Ring Spotlight Cam Battery, Ring Floodlight Cam, Ring Alarm, Ring Spotlight Cam Solar, Stick Up Cam Wired, and Stick Up Cam Battery. For more information about Ring’s products, please visit Ring.com/products.
Promotional codes are valid for a single use only and cannot be used toward previously purchased Ring products. Residents will also need to pay an additional subscription fee to record and save the footage on the Ring mobile app.
For more information or questions about the rebate program, please contact Louie F. Lacasella, Assistant to the City Manager, at llacasella@lakeforestca.gov.
