Three Dana Hills High School students were honored for their design skills on Thursday, February 28, 2019, by the South Coast Water District (SCWD) Board of Directors. The contest encouraged the students to use their skills to “do something good for their school, their community, and their creative portfolio.” SCWD asked the students to create and design public information posters for the Golden Lantern Bottleneck construction project.
The winners of the contest included;
- First Place – Robert Copeland ($300)
- Second Place -Felicia White ($200)
- Third Place – Allyson Alldredge ($100)
The students’ teachers Ms. Natalie Hribar-Kelly and Ms. Krista Rodriquez worked with the students to encourage their participation. The posters will be used in a public outreach safety campaign to notify residents, students and daily commuters about the project. Posters will be used on SCWD’s website, and display on social media (including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and Next Door.) All of the entries (nearly 90) will be posted on our Instagram accounts during the length of the project.
Project Background:
South Coast Water District (SCWD) is currently installing a new recycled water distribution main in Golden Lantern, between Jeremiah and Stonehill Drives. The new line will correct severe low-pressure problems within the vicinity of Stonehill Drive, Golden Lantern, and the harbor area south of Coast Highway. The District has experienced a significant increase in demands on the recycled water system, coupled with a section of small diameter main located within this area of the distribution system.
