Film buff and Long Beach native Iris Rose returns to The Found Theatre after 39 years with her cabaret performance, “The Siren Song of the Silver Screen,” which combines her love of cinema with her ear for great songs. Genres represented range from cult films to kids’ classics, from Bond flicks to horror movies. Iris will be joined by special guests Jeff Paul on additional vocals and Jeanne Gallo performing a tribute to silent films.
In its 45th Anniversary year, the Found is pleased to welcome back one of its earliest company members. Iris first performed at the Found Theatre in 1975, just one year after it was founded by Cynthia Galles, and later directed the productions “Dreamers” and “Raid on Entebbe.” At the Found, she also performed in The Frankenstein Collective’s “Sing Softly, Monster, My Sad Song” and in Marlane Gomard Meyer’s “Death of Pavlova.” Iris was a member of Long Beach’s legendary punk rock band The Stingers (1978-’81), and the leftist political children’s theater group Stone Soup.

Long Beach native Iris Rose returns to the Found Theatre with her cabaret show “The Siren Song of the Silver Screen.” Always a film buff, Iris has selected a collection of songs from and about movies that run the gamut from the classic (“The Man That Got Away”) to the unexpected (“Mothra!”) to the unknown (“Many Questions,” cut before release from the cult film “The 5,000 Fingers of Dr. T”). She is joined in the performance by Long Beach’s own Jeff Paul, who will join Iris in several duets, and San Francisco’s Jeanne Gallo, who will present a moving tribute to silent films.

Iris Rose grew up in Long Beach, California, but moved to New York City in 1982. She performed, wrote, and directed many shows with the group Watchface in the 1980s (archived at watchface.nyc) at the Pyramid Club, La MaMa, and PS 122, among many other venues, as well as at MOCA in Los Angeles, the Alley Theatre in Houston, TX, and various spaces in San Francisco and Washington, DC. In 2008 she founded Theater of the Grasshopper, which presented offbeat shows for kids and adults. She is currently a designer of children’s clothing (Mackrelmint on Etsy), a sewing teacher, and often performs at the East Village supper club Pangea.
