Roger W. Rossier

Roger W. Rossier
Master of Science, Education 1962; Doctor of Education 1972

ROGER W. ROSSIER has been an active volunteer at USC for nearly 50 years. His ardent commitment to the university is best exemplified by the fact that his name has graced the USC Rossier School of Education since 1998, thanks to a $20-million dollar gift to the school from him and his wife Barbara. The Rossiers have also endowed a scholarship in their name to benefit students living and working in Orange County, California who are pursuing a counseling credential at USC Rossier.

Since 1999, Rossier has been a member of the USC Athletic Department Board of Councilors and chair of the School Counseling Advisory Council of the USC Rossier School. From 2001 to 2006, he was chair of the USC Alumni Association SCions Scholarship Committee. He is currently chair of the USC Orange County President’s Council, president of the Trojan Club of Orange County, and president of the North Orange County Alumni Club.

Rossier spent 45 years actively involved in public and private educational services for children and adults. He holds numerous California state credentials (including teaching, administrative and pupil personnel and services), and is also a licensed marriage, family and child therapist.

In 1975, 1977 and 1987, he taught for USC in Asia and Europe when the university had masters and doctorate of education programs on military bases. At that time, he was also an adjunct faculty member at California State University Fullerton.

For 20 years, Rossier served as vice president of Rossier Educational Enterprises, Inc. (REE) which specialized in providing educational day programs for children with special needs. These programs included a nationally recognized non-public school for children ages 6-21 with delays in academic, social and/or emotional development, and pioneering programs for pre-school children. REE was also engaged in real estate and development, among other areas. Rossier directed the career counseling, transportation and travel divisions of the corporation.

Prior to the establishment of REE, Rossier served as a high school and college counselor while maintaining a private practice as a therapist. He continues to consult on educational and mental health issues. USC Rossier recognized him in 2007 with its RSOE Award for his leadership in the field of education. He is the recipient of a 2001 USC Alumni Association President’s Award. In 2008 the athletic department presented him with the Arnold Eddy Volunteer of the Year Award.
