“Thank You!” is inadequate to express our appreciation
Capistrano’s teachers wish to express their profound appreciation for the tremendous support shown them during the recent strike. If you “walked a picket line,” provided water or food to striking teachers, honked your car horn as you passed by . . . please know that your support means more than we can say.
As you know, the strike was never something teachers wanted to do, but the ideological, reckless behavior of the Capistrano school board left them no choice.
To give just one example of why this school board must be replaced in next November’s election, throughout over 30 hours of bargaining that resulted in the tentative agreement, CUEA’s bargaining team repeatedly offered language that would count the three strike days as the three student furlough days the board had mandated in their imposition. Teachers do not want their students to miss yet three more days of instruction.
The board’s abject refusal speaks volumes about not only their vindictiveness, but also their expressed “concern for the students’ education.” But it’s not too late. Please contact the board and tell them to validate their professed value of education by eliminating those three remaining student furlough days.
The bonds we have forged will be invaluable in helping us all work together to restore sanity and tranquility to Capistrano.
Sincerely,
Capistrano’s teachers,
Proud members of the Capistrano Unified Education Association
