Segerstrom Center for the Arts proudly presents a double evening of jazz featuring two-time Grammy Award®-winning vocalist Lisa Fischer and celebrated ensemble SFJAZZ Collective on October 25, 2019, at 8:00 p.m. in the Renée and Henry Segerstrom Concert Hall. “A powerhouse with monumental range” (Daily Star), Fischer and her trio Grand Baton open the evening putting a fresh spin on rock anthems and blues standards, fusing them to African, Middle Eastern and Caribbean rhythms. Then, the SFJAZZ Collective, comprised of eight of the finest performers in jazz today, celebrates the 50th anniversaries of two influential albums: In A Silent Way by Miles Davis and Stand! by Sly and the Family Stone.
Each member of the collective will rearrange songs from both seminal albums in addition to preparing an original composition as part of the group’s mission to perform fresh arrangements of works by modern masters and newly commissioned pieces by each SFJAZZ Collective member. Vocalist and Across the Universe film standout Martin Luther McCoy and master guitarist Adam Rogers join the all-star ensemble for their 2019-2020 season as the first vocalist and guitarist to be part of the SFJAZZ Collective.

Single tickets start at $39 and are available for purchase online at www.SCFTA.org, at the Box Office at 600 Town Center Drive in Costa Mesa or by calling (714) 556-2787. For inquiries about group ticket savings of 10 or more, call the Group Services office at (714) 755-0236.

BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION
Lisa Fischer
Lisa Fischer and her band Grand Baton first set out on tour in 2014. Their music is an organic gumbo of progressive rock, psychedelic soul, and African, Middle Eastern, Caribbean rhythms and classical influences. In performance, they reinvent songs by Led Zeppelin, Amy Grant, Little Willie John, and The Rolling Stones as well as Lisa’s originals. After decades bringing raw soul to the stage for The Rolling Stones, Sting, Tina Turner and Nine Inch Nails, Lisa is emerging as the most inventive and heartfelt interpreter of classic rock songs working today.
Fischer won her first Grammy® for “How Can I Ease The Pain,” from her 1991 album So Intense. With a hit song on the radio and a Grammy® win, a major solo tour seemed inevitable, but Fischer was on the road, backing either her beloved mentor Luther Vandross or The Rolling Stones. Fischer was a legend in the music industry; everybody loved her sound. But she never put her own band together, never toured under her own name. Now, after years of supporting other artists, electrifying the world’s largest arenas with the power of her voice, Fischer has finally taken center stage.
The Oscar®-winning 2013 documentary Twenty Feet from Stardom changed the course of Fischer’s musical journey. Featuring clips of Fischer’s legendary duet with Mick Jagger on “Gimme Shelter” and glowing testimonials from famous colleagues, the film showcased her virtuosity and vulnerability, earned her a second Grammy®, and left audiences eager to see and hear more. “Ms. Fischer has become the unexpected star of Mr. Neville’s film,” said The New York Times.
