St. Anne School is an Independent Catholic school recognized by the Diocese of Orange, and made up of over 750 students ranging from Preschool age to 8th grade. St. Anne has an exceptional music program where students in grades K-5 meet with music teachers weekly. Vocal and instrumental music classes are offered as electives for middle school students (6th-8th grade) who wish to excel in these disciplines. What distinguishes St. Anne’s music program from other private schools in the area is the exponential growth of student participation in these programs. Three years ago, the school implemented the Mind Institute program, offering piano lab to their 1st-5th grade students. Last year, the school introduced an orchestra program, which began with only three students, as well as a choir. Today the instrumental program has three orchestras with 37 members, and the performance choir has gone on to achieve top awards from local festivals in only their second year.
St. Anne School also has the Knight Staff Band, with teachers of various specialties all playing together to emphasize the importance of music education at their school. Even their Headmaster, Randy Adams, plays lead guitar in the band. The school also hosts a Battle of the Bands production in which students from St. Anne School and local schools may participate with their garage style bands and compete for prizes. In an effort to provide partnerships in a time of need for growing music programs, St. Anne School’s instrumental & vocal program will be collaborating with JSerra High School Orchestra in a concert coming up this Thursday, May 6th, 2010 at 6pm at St. Anne School. The concert entitled “Bach to Rock” will be an assortment of straight classical music to rock hits featuring pieces from such bands as Coldplay, Michael Jackson, Led Zeppelin, Charlie Daniels and ABBA.
