Boys and Girls Club members who participated in an essay writing contest were awarded Google Chromebooks during a giveaway party at Cox Solutions Store in Woodbury Town Center.

Wednesday, October 30, 2019 , Cox Communications, alongside City of Irvine Councilmember Michael C. Carroll and the Boys and Girls Club of Central Orange Coast surprised fifteen club members with laptops.
The surprise giveaway party for Boys & Girls Club of Irvine members who participated in an essay contest prompted by the question: “How does technology help YOU pursue greatness?” awarded Fifteen Club members, who have a need for financial support. They believed they are coming to the Cox Solutions Store for a field trip and to learn who the top three winners of the contest are. All were surprised by members of #TeamCox and each student received a free Google Chromebook for studying and homework.
Cox is committed to bridging the digital divide and the Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Orange Coast are committed to creating versatile Club experiences to prepare members for the 21st century and beyond. The two entities have teamed up to provide these 15 students with the technology they need to be successful in school and their future endeavors. Cox will also provide information on its Connect2Compete program to each student.
In early October, Cox announced an automatic speed increase for Connect2Compete participants, with download speeds now at 25 megabytes per second and upload speeds now at 3 megabytes per second. The new speeds give participating students an even bigger boost to help them complete research and homework faster, and overall support for their education.
