Candy bars, photo booths, candy cake-walks, dancing and the sweet sounds of rhythm and blues were all part of the fun and festivities that marked the Grand Re-opening of the Sea Country Senior and Community Center on May 8th.
City officials kicked off the event with a ribbon cutting ceremony celebrating the completion of the 10,000 square foot building expansion and renovation project.
The open-house and community party showcased the newly-renovated facility, community classes, senior programs and room rental opportunities. Over 1800 visitors, both young and “not so young!” made their way through the Center where they were treated to tray-passed
hors d’oeuvres, delicious appetizers, and a no-host bar. Many stopped to scoop up sweet treats from the Candy Bar and have their photo taken at the photo booth. Some preferred to bask in the wam summer sun as they enjoyed the beautiful courtyard and performances by strolling enterainers. A Class Faire promoted community classes with demonstrations, music and a variety of give-aways.
The newly renovated facility includes: a dedicated fitness room, expanded computer classroom, large and small multi-purpose rooms, lounge area and enlarged lobby, dedicated nurse/counseling office, remodeled billiards room and remodeled Library.
Furnishings depicting “Sea Country” – an Urban California Design where outdoor materials, representing water, nature and earth are brought inside, can be seen throughout the facility. “Our goal was to create a beautiful, contemporary, and comfortable place for people of all ages to enjoy.” said Cathy Angstadt, Director for the Center.
All in all, the elegant affair, complete with signature items such as the Sea Country Candy Bar, the Sea Country Cookie Pop, and the Sea Country Cocktail demonstrated that “Life is Sweet at Sea Country”.
