DANA POINT COVID-19 COMMUNITY UPDATE JULY 10

Date:

City:  Due to COVID-19, the City’s summer concert series is officially cancelled. The Community Center will remain closed and therefore, in-person classes scheduled to begin on July 13th are also cancelled. Dana Point Recreation is still offering a number of classes virtually such as, Art, Cooking, Dance, Karate, Belly Dance, Country Line Dance, Guitar, Ukulele, and more! Virtual classes start on July 13th. Register online here.

The City will be resuming enforcement of No Parking Zones for Street Sweeping. Dana Point Police Services has issued warnings all week, and will start ticketing cars blocking the street sweeper ‪on July 13th.   Please move your vehicles for street sweeping.

County:  Sheriff Don Barnes sent a letter to Governor Newsom to clarify his enforcement strategy related to COVID-19.  The Sheriff continues to take an educational approach to public health orders, but will move beyond education in instances where egregious violations occur.  Read his letter here.

Following guidance from the State, the County issued a statement that youth sports activities, including practices will be postponed until further direction from the State.

Orange County has seen its COVID-19 infection rate rising in the 25-34 age group.  While this rise has not had a marked impact on hospitalization rates, the County will be working to develop increased educational materials to reach this demographic.

Based on input from elected officials, the media and community organizations, the County of Orange has redesigned its public coronavirus data dashboard, making it easy to see how the County’s case and hospitalization numbers compare to State benchmarks, where information is provided by zip code, and how nursing facilities are affecting the numbers in each community.  Find the site and more coronavirus information at occovid19.ochealthinfo.com.

State:   Half of California’s counties are now on the State’s watch list, which means the California Department of Public Health is providing targeted strategy calls and technical assistance to local health agencies, including Orange County.

On June 18, 2020, Governor Newsom and the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) announced guidance that face coverings will be required in the State of California, effective immediately. The new order supersedes the County’s Health Order issued on June 11 relating to face coverings.

Additional information on the guidance for the use of face coverings from the California Department of Public Health can be found here.

The California Department of Public Health is also publishing the County Monitoring List to give Californians insight into how their county is performing and provide early indication of developing areas of concern.

Federal:   On Saturday July 4th, President Trump signed a new law to extend the Paycheck Protection Program through August 8th.  The U.S. Small Business Administration, in consultation with the Treasury Department, announced it was releasing detailed loan-level data regarding the loans made under the Paycheck Protection Program.  This disclosure covers each of the 4.9 million PPP loans that have been made.

Services and Resources Directory is now housed on the COVID-19 page on the City’s website.  New services and resources will be shared in this update, then moved over to the City’s COVID-19 webpage.  You can access that information here.
