New film by OC screenwriter of movies with Robert De Niro, Forest Whitaker making an impact on Amazon Prime Video
“My Melancholy Baby” written by screenwriter Keith Sharon is streaming on Amazon Prime Video and having an impact on people across the country. The film takes a look into the life of a family — a recovering addict, a child with many developmental disabilities, and an overwhelmed mother. “My Melancholy Baby” was shot in 2020 and is part of the Montreal Film Festival.
A former Orange County Register reporter, Keith Sharon penned “Showtime” with Robert De Niro and Eddie Murphy and more recently “Finding Steve McQueen” with Forest Whitaker. He wrote “My Melancholy Baby” based on personal family experience.
The film stars Dylan Sharon, 12-year-old Kayden Tokarski of Laguna Niguel and Sage Kirkpatrick with Tank Jones. It was directed by award-winning director Justin Wilder Neese.
“I watched this movie last night and was amazed at the acting and raw storyline,” said viewer Michael Wang in a comment posted on Prime Video. “The film does a great job at bringing important topics like autism and addiction to light and the impacts on family. I can only imagine how many families personally relate to this film. I know I cried watching. The chemistry between the little girl and her brother, especially, is real and their acting was so on point.”
Sharon recently spoke to radio personality and autism advocate Sheletta Brundidge about the personal struggles he and his family face daily, which was the impetus for this moving film.
Tokarski, who serve as the keynote speaker at this year’s Walk Against Drugs, has been acting since she was 10 and is starring in the soon-to-be released “Apocalypse Love Story”; 10 short films including Moving Picture Institute original “Unloaded”; several commercials and was featured on shows like “The Mandalorian”; Modern Family; and “NCIS.” Dylan Sharon has appeared in “The Bold and Beautiful,” “The Mortuary Collection,” “Fast and Furious 9,” and five award-winning short films. Kirkpatrick is best known for her work on TV Drama series “Dexter.”
