The Orange County Fire Authority (OCFA) has launched the new Ready, Set, Go! program designed to provide information and encourage members of the community to take a proactive approach to safeguard their homes from wildfire. To kick off the program, OCFA recently placed trail signs along Aliso Summit Trail and placed door hangers with information about the program in neighborhoods adjacent to the trail.
Wind-driven embers can destroy homes or neighborhoods far from the actual flame of the wildfire. Residents can take steps to protect their homes before a fire occurs. Some of these steps include:
• Create a buffer zone by removing dead weeds, brush, and other vegetation near your home
• Clear leaves and pine needles from roof and rain gutters
• Remove or prune vegetation near windows
• Keep palm trees neatly trimmed
• Cut all tree branches within 10 feet of the roof
• Cover attic and garage vents with 1/8 inch metal mesh
• Seal gaps around roof tiles
• Create a family disaster plan
• Assemble an emergency evacuation kit
The Orange County Fire Authority is offering free home consultations and community presentations on wildfire safety. For more information call (714) 573-6200 or visit:
