Several people cast their votes to see “Finding Nemo” during the Aliso Viejo Aquatic Center’s Movie Night Thursday, Aug. 26. The City facility asked residents to choose their favorite family-friendly flick from a list of 10 by e-mail or posting their choice to the Aliso Viejo Aquatic Center (AVAC) Facebook page. The beloved animated film received the most votes out of the nearly 50 people who weighed in.
The evening, which blends a night at the movies with a dip in the pool, kicks off at 7:00 p.m. at the resort-style facility located at 29 Santa Barbara. The Oasis Cafe will be open to 7:30 p.m. providing a host of delectable snacks to enjoy during the G-rated film.
Movie Night is $5 for adults; $3 for youth.
The Aquatic Center is conveniently located near Aliso Creek Road and Glenwood Drive, next to the Aliso Viejo Conference Center. For more information, call 949-425-2559 or visit www.cityofalisoviejo.com/aquaticcenter.
Local youth organizations sought to recite the Pledge of Allegiance at City Council meetings
The City is seeking more local youth organizations such as Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, Daisy and Brownie troops that are interested in the opportunity to lead the Pledge of Allegiance at the beginning of City Council meetings.
Since the beginning of the year, different youth organizations have been starting each City Council meeting by leading the Council and members of the public in the Pledge of Allegiance. The young boys and girls are introduced by Mayor Phil Tsunoda, receive City pins and a group photo is taken that is posted on the City’s Web site.
The youth involvement is part of the City’s 2010 celebration of the Year of the Youth, the brainchild of Mayor Tsunoda.
“Involving our kids in civic activities benefits them and our City alike,” Mayor Tsunoda said. “Reciting the Pledge of Allegiance gives these youngsters exposure to City government and reinforces the importance of civic pride and involvement in our community.”
The City Council meets at 7:00 p.m. on the first and third Wednesday of each month in the Council Chambers at City Hall, which is located at 12 Journey. Organizations interested in leading the Pledge should contact Kelly Tokarski, the City’s Public Information Consultant, at 949-395-4448 or ktokarski@cityofalisoviejo.com.
