You know you’ve been waiting for it!! Our kick-off assembly will be next Tuesday for the Great American Fundraiser! Check your child’s backpack for their packet of information on selling gift wrap, catalog items and cookie dough! Monies raised from this fundraiser will be used for grade-level field trips, our Art Masters program, assemblies and so much more! Help support our Canyon Vista Crocodiles with this major fundraiser of the year!
PARKING LOT REMINDER:
It’s always a good idea to remind each other of our Canyon Vista “parking lot etiquette” to ensure that our number one priority, our students, are always safe when entering and leaving school. We know everyone’s time is valuable, but please be patient when dropping off and picking up your students. Below are a few “rules of the road” for Canyon Vista:
• Please approach the school from the west. Driving in from Oak View and then turning around in the Canyon View Estates development is a hazard for children trying to cross the street in front of the Canyon View Estate entrance, not to mention a nuisance for the Canyon View residents. Please follow the established traffic flow guidelines of driving up Wood Canyon, turning left on Westridge, left onto Oak View and then right into the school.
• Important: Please remember that you may NOT pass cars that are waiting along the curb on Oak View and then turn right into our driveway, cutting them off, unless you are planning on using the left “pass through” lane. Also, you may not pass the cars waiting in the upper pick-up line to move in front as cars are pulling out. Both of these actions pose a serious danger to our fellow parents and students.
• Please do not turn left into the school driveway, or left out of the driveway, off of Oak View during peak hours. It is an illegal turn and you could be ticketed. Please adhere to the posted signs.
For Parents dropping off their children in the parking lot, please:
• Stay in your car. If you need to get out, please park you car in the parking lot so you do not impede the traffic flow. Remember, please do NOT park your car in a numbered staff spot as our teachers and other staff members are also arriving at school at this time.
• Pull continuously forward in the right lane.
• Have your child ready to exit the car with their backpack on their lap.
• The passing lane is only for traveling to the parking area. Please do not drive into the passing lane and then cut in front of a parent that has been patiently waiting to drop their child by the curb. Also do not cut out of the curb lane until you have moved your vehicle well past the cross walk.
• If you are parking, please use the cross walk when going from your car to the school.
We also encourage you to walk with your child to school or look into carpooling.
GIRL SCOUTS ARE RECRUITING NEW MEMBERS!
If your daughter is interested in becoming part of the Girl Scout of America, there will be a recruiting event for the formation of new troops. Join them on Monday, October 4th from 7 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. at the Aliso Viejo Library Community Room. The address is 1 Journey, Aliso Viejo. Help keep Aliso Viejo “Drug Free For You and Me!” Register for the Aliso Viejo Red Ribbon Walk which will be held on October 24, 2010 at Aliso Niguel High School from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. Registration is free and easy at AVRedRibbonWalk2010.EventBrite.com.
