Corpus Christi’s 2010 Autumn Mass and Hoe-down at Oak Glen, Sunday October 24th

Date:

September 25-26, 2009

Can Corpus Christi borrow your hoops, nets and balls?

The Priests of the Diocese of Orange so enjoyed their visit last year to Corpus Christi that they are returning this year for the Diocese’s Second Annual Priest Community Day!

Nothing succeeds like success and we showed exquisite hospitality and graciousness…which seemingly took some of them by surprise (like some of them wondering if we provided toothbrushes and toothpaste for ALL our parishioners at weekend Masses!!!) We need some help with a couple of things that you may have in your garage or on your driveway: we would like to borrow two more Volleyball nets along with balls and we would like to borrow those free-standing Basketball hoops…the kind that can be moved around…along with basketballs.

We are hoping to have two full basketball courts set up, along with multiple volleyball nets. We will have our croquet set in play along with a couple of other activities for which we already have supplies….but we could really use your help with the nets, balls and hoops. Please call (389-9011) or send an e-mail to FKB (Fredkbailey@corpuschristialisoviejo.org) if you can help out.

We need them in the first week of October and we can arrange to pick them up and return them…we just need your willingness to loan them to the priests of the Diocese for a day. Thanks.

Networking and Employment Transition Support (NETS) Ministry: Landing the job you want is the most important marketing and sales job you will ever have and if your job research and resume are your marketing tools, then your interview is the sales call, and you are the “must have” product.

A great sales rep knows the product inside and out, and can point out how it will make money, save money, and how it will benefit a potential customer. It is the same with a job interview. However, many of us are not trained in the art of sales and thus find it uncomfortable to do so, and so too many more can feel uncomfortable in an interview.

That will all change for those who attend the October 14, 2010 NETS Meeting from 7:30-9:30 p.m., where Mr. Scott Bailey will present the 7 simple steps of the Sandler Sales Program applied directly to job interviewing. In his presentation, entitled: “How to Effectively Sell Yourself in Interviews”, he will show you how to control an interview for the outcome you desire and the future you envision. As space will be limited, you will need to reserve a spot. Please RSVP by contacting Ed Jordan at ejordan@noletspirits.com or 949-389-1715.

Helping to find families for kids….Beta Foster Care will be here October 9-10….

For several years Corpus Christi has had a close relationship with Beta Foster Care. Beta Foster Care is a non-profit foster family agency licensed by the State of California Department of Social Services Community Care Licensing. Beta Foster Care trains and certifies qualified adults for foster care under state regulations and manages the appropriate placement of children into these foster homes.

They then provide continuing therapy for the children and ongoing support for the foster parents. Over the years, Beta Foster Care and Corpus Christi have worked together to open the doors of parish communities to children in need of foster parents/families. Indeed, a number of Corpus Christi individuals and families have ended up serving as foster parents…and some have offered the greatest gift possible by legally adopting their foster children!

If you might be interested in learning more about Beta Foster Care you are encouraged to contact our Parish representative, Mrs. Kathy Kleine (489-1291) or to call Beta Foster Care direct at their Laguna Niguel Office at 495-4829. You may also wish to visit their website, www.betafostercare.org Thanks.

Corpus Christi’s 2010 Autumn Mass and Hoe-down at Oak Glen, Sunday October 24th
Just a week before All Hallows Eve, come out and celebrate with family and friends as Corpus Christi celebrates an Autumn tradition of heading to beautiful Oak Glen for an afternoon of browsing the boutiques, orchards and bakeries of the mountain community. Following an afternoon of perusing, nibbling and harvesting, head over to Los Rios Orchard for our Autumn Mass in the Meadow at 4:30 p.m., followed by a BYO Picnic Dinner on the orchard grounds. Los Rios will keep their bakery and barbecue open for those who prefer to purchase items there rather than BYO.

Following Mass/dinner, plan to linger as the 5-piece country-band strolls the property amongst us and eventually settles near the outdoor fire pit as the hills will echo with our festivity, (NO, the barn is not being rented this year.) Each family/individual is responsible for providing their own transportation, with the accompanying personal freedom of arriving and departing at ones’ personal leisure All this for only $8 per adult and $6 per child (over 2 and under 12)! Please RSVP no later than October 22nd! Autumn Mass and Hoe-Down Reservation forms are on the Concierge Shelves!

Corpus Christi Women’s Ministry has a new coordinator…and new directions…

You will recall during the summer season that our Heartprints Ministry was discontinued for discernment and reflection on how to best respond to the assorted women’s age/interest groups within our parish. It was MaryAnne O’Brien, the founder of Heartprints who said it was time to ‘bury that title’, that it had served its purpose in our early development…but in order for something new to arise, it needed a new name as well as new concepts and direction. Thus, the title ‘Heartprints’ is no more (like not calling New York a colony or referring to Religious Education as CCD.) While new names for the assorted component of our Women’s Ministry are still being crafted, I am pleased to share with you that Mrs. Jackie Kleinhammes has accepted the position of Coordinator of Women’s Ministry here at Corpus Christi.

One of the early ‘founding parishioners’ of Corpus Christi, Jackie was part of the team that established our present MOPs ministry and she presently coordinates our Good Friday Prayer Breakfast while also serving on our Parish Pastoral Council. In coming weeks more information will be passed along regarding the development of our parish approach to Women’s Ministry…but for now, WELCOME JACKIE…a new chapter in our parish development is now unfolding under your guidance!

Our friend, Fr. Greg Boyle, S.J., is presenting nearby on November 6th….
For those who perhaps missed last Spring’s Good Friday Prayer Breakfast with Father Greg Boyle of Homeboy/Homegirl Industries-Bakery, he will be presenting again on Saturday, November 6th at the St. Joseph Center at 480 S. Batavia Street in Orange from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. ‘Tattoos on the Heart’ is the theme of his presentation as well as the name of his newest book, the proceeds from which go to support Homeboy Industries. A $15 donation is requested and reservations can be obtained by calling Cindy Galvez at 714-997-9587, X10. All proceeds benefit Homeboy/Homegirl Industries. Thanks.

FIRST SATURDAY MEN’S FELLOWSHIP BREAKFAST is next Saturday, OCTOBER 2
On the heels of a very successful retreat weekend in San Clemente, the First Saturday Men’s Fellowship is back next Saturday, October 2 with Father Fred as guest presenter. Father Fred will be sharing reflections regarding the role of men in the church and the responsibilities of Catholic men in the community at large. The breakfast starts at 7:30 in the lower hall (or 6 a.m. for the hearty breakfast preparers who want some bonus fellowship time). Please try to join us and bring along a fellow brother in Christ or two. For more information, contact Brian Brassil at misterb50@gmail.com or 949/212-5994.

Book Club invites you to join the discussions! Come to Room 4, Monday, October 4, 7:00 P.M. This month we’re reading Cutting for Stone by Abraham Verghese and Sarah’s Key by Tatiana de Rosnay.
