New Tax would stifle Job Creation at worst time
Laguna Hills, CA….The South Orange County Regional Chamber of Commerce announced today it is opposing Proposition 24, a measure that would repeal recent business tax breaks as well as legislation focused on helping companies survive the economic downturn.
“At a time when millions of Californians are out of work, this measure taxes new job creation, hits California employers and small businesses with higher taxes and stifles job growth,” explained Wendy Bucknum, Chair of the Regional Chamber’s Legislative Action Committee.
The South Orange County Regional Chamber joins business organizations such as the California Chamber of Commerce, California Manufacturers and Technology Association, the California Building Industry Association as well as the California Taxpayers Association in opposition to Proposition 24. Of specific concern to the South Orange County Chamber is the disproportionate impact the measure will have on small businesses in the region.
“The Yes campaign misleads voters into thinking that this is all about closing corporate tax loopholes,” continued Bucknum of Professional Community Management. “We’re working hard to educate our members, particularly small businesses, that everyone will be hit if Proposition 24 were to pass.”
While the South Orange County Regional Chamber of Commerce does not endorse candidates, it does endorse for or against local and statewide measures that members feel will impact the region’s businesses. The Governmental Affairs Committee voted on the recommendations of the Proposition Sub-committee then submitted the entire slate of positions for approval by the Chamber’s Corporate Board of Directors. The Regional Chamber will announce positions on all statewide propositions throughout the month of September.
A leading advocate for business in south Orange County, the South Orange County Regional Chamber of Commerce provides services for more than 600 member businesses of all sizes and industries throughout the region.
