DANCE FOR 7TH AND 8TH GRADERS FRIDAY NIGHT

Our first dance of the year, the Video Dance, is Friday night (October 8) from 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. The dance is for 7th and 8th grade students only.

Tickets will be sold for this dance on Thursday and Friday at lunchtime. To purchase a ticket the student will need this signed permission slip and $5.00. Students must bring the signed permission slip and their school I.D. cards with them to the dance. No parent notes will be accepted. Permission slips were passed out in class and are available in the office. Duplicate permissions slips can also be found on school loop.

To attend the dance you must be a 7th or 8th grade student at Niguel Hills and be at school on Friday the 8th of October. Students with 4 or more demerits this quarter or 10 total demerits are not eligible to attend the dance.

Niguel Hills dress code will be enforced and the dance will be outside so a sweater or sweatshirt is recommended. No FREAKING or MOSHING allowed. Also, NO GLOW STICKS ALLOWED.

Parents: Please pick up your child at 9:00 p.m. Students not picked up 9:15 p.m. may lose their privilege of going to the next dance.

CUSD GATE TESTING INFORMATION

Dear Parents,

If you are interested in having your child tested for the Gifted and Talented Education Program (GATE), please read the information below:

Criteria Based GATE Testing Requirements:
During the first week of December 2010, all CUSD 3rd-7th grade students who meet the Criteria Based GATE Test requirements will be mailed an invitation to take the Criteria Based Otis-Lennon School Abilities Test (OLSAT) or Naglieri Non-Verbal Abilities Test (NNAT) on Saturday, January 8, 2011 at Niguel Hills Middle School in Laguna Niguel. For information regarding the CUSD GATE testing criteria, please visit the CUSD GATE website at http://gate.schoolloop.com .

New/Transfer Students:
1. If a 3rd-7th grade student is new to CUSD or did not take the 2010 STAR Test at a CUSD school in the spring of 2010, that student will not be mailed an invitation for January GATE testing unless the student’s parent mails or faxes one of the following documents to the GATE office:
A copy of the new/transfer student’s• 2010 STAR Student Report demonstrating that the student has met the above GATE testing criteria. (Please do not send STAR reports older than 2010.)
A copy of the new/transfer student’s• 2010 standardized test report from his/her prior school demonstrating that the student’s average English-Language Arts or Reading AND Mathematics score is at or above the 95th percentile. (Example: A reading score of 99% and a math score of 93% equals an average score of 96%. Please do not send a standardized testing report older than 2010.)
2. Documentation Deadline for New/Transfer Students: One of the above documents must be faxed to the GATE office at (949) 489-0467 or mailed to the CUSD GATE Office at 33122 Valle Road, San Juan Capistrano, CA 92675 no later than November 4, 2010. Along with your documentation, please include a cover letter with the following information:
Parent’s name, address, and phone• number
Student’s name, grade level,• birthday, CUSD school name, and CUSD ID number
Former school’s name, address, and• phone number

Fee-Based OLSAT GATE Testing:
Parents may nominate 3rd -7th grade students who do NOT meet the requirements for January Criteria Based GATE testing to take the OLSAT for a non-refundable $200 fee on Saturday, February 12, 2011 at Niguel Hills Middle School. The Fee Based OLSAT GATE Test is available to all 3rd -7th grade public and private school students residing within the CUSD District boundaries. The Fee Based OLSAT GATE Test application deadline is January 27, 2010. To download the Fee Based OLSAT Test application, please visit the CUSD GATE website at http://gate.schoolloop.com .

Make-Up GATE Test:
A make-up GATE Test will be offered on February 26, 2011 to students who missed or could not attend the Criteria Based GATE Test on January 8, 2011 or the Fee Based OLSAT on February 12, 2011. An additional $50 fee will be charged for the make-up test. To download the Make-Up GATE Test application, please visit the CUSD GATE website at http://gate.schoolloop.com .

Please Note: All students who score at or above the 95th percentile on one of the above GATE tests qualify for the Capistrano Unified School District’s GATE program in the fall of 2012.

COME TO MOULTON’S BOO BLAST AND RECEIVE A FREE COTTON CANDY!

Join Moulton Elementary for its annual PTA Halloween Carnival, Boo Blast, on Saturday, October 23rd and receive a free cotton candy! Simply bring the Boo Blast Flyer and buy 40 or more tickets to receive your free cotton candy. (Tickets are 50 cents each and games and rides vary from 2 to 6 tickets in cost.) Boo Blast is full of fun for the entire family! There will be a Ferris Wheel, Swinging Pirate Ship, Inflatable Obstacle Course, Rock Climbing Wall, Haunted House, Face Painting, Colored Hair Spraying, a Pumpkin Walk, Entertainment, Raffle/Silent Auction and Game Booths. Have your children bring a trick-or-treat bag because each time they play a game, they will win a small, medium or large prize. Chronic Tacos and Powell’s Cotton Candy will be coming and hot dogs and popsicles will be available. We look forward to seeing you there!

This awareness event will showcase the services provided through the San Juan Capistrano GRIP Program. The GRIP program is a collaborative effort between the Orange County District Attorney’s Office, the Orange County Sheriff’s Department, the Orange County Probation Department, the Capistrano Unified School District, the City of San Juan Capistrano, The Boys & Girls Clubs of Capistrano Valley, CREER, PRYDE, Mission Hospital, The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, Saddleback Church, Young Life, the YMCA, Big Brothers/Big Sisters, Chapman University, the San Juan Capistrano Rotary Club and other community groups to prevent children from joining criminal street gangs and to make Orange County a safer place. You and other organizations are invited to learn about the progress of the Gang Prevention Programs and services we provide. You will learn information about the San Juan GRIP mentoring event.
