As autumn unfolds, we prepare to honor those who have brightened our live and now shine in heaven…
Walking amidst the Christmas-filled glamour of Costco aisles, it would be easy to miss the weekend of October 30 – October 31st when we will anticipate and honor All Saints and All Souls at all our weekend Masses. As we commemorate ALL our beloved dead, be they official saints or simply saintly in our hearts. Please note that we will commemorate the actual All Saints Day on Monday, November 1st with Mass at 8:00 a.m. and the actual All Souls Day on Tuesday, November 2nd with the usual Mass as 8:00 a.m. Special All Souls envelopes are available on the Concierge Shelves by which you can list the names of your own cherished loved ones/family members you wish remembered at the All Souls Masses throughout November. Thanks.
Real patriots care for each other’s sons and daughters…especially MARINES away from home….
With the arrival of October, many of us start to anticipate Thanksgiving….and you might wish to give some thought to enriching your Thanksgiving experience by opening your home, and life, to hosting a Marine or two from Camp Pendleton for Thanksgiving Dinner. You would need to be pre-cleared through the Camp Pendleton Armed Forces YMCA (which oversees the program) and then you need to pick them up bright and early on Thanksgiving Day….and have them back on base remarkably early, usually before 6:00 p.m. BUT, the experience of hosting some other American’s son or daughter for the Holiday Meal is a heart-tugging experience. If you would like more information, or to get your name on the LIST, please call Suzanne Tabrum at 760-385-4921…and if this is something important for you….you need to call QUICKLY as their LIST is filling fast! Thanks!
Just in time for Thanksgiving hostess gifts or holiday stocking stuffers…On November 6-7, CONCERN America will be present after all our Masses offering handmade items from El Salvador, Guatemala, Mexico, Honduras, Ecuador and Bangladesh for sale. In purchasing these gift items you support the outreach of CONCERN America, an international development and refugee aid organization based in Santa Ana. You may also view their selection of crafts at www.concernamerica.org.
SCRIP…..SCRIP….an easy way to help the Building Fund without any extra expense! With the holidays approaching (got your Halloween candy yet?), this would be a good time to make sure you have your Von’s or Ralph’s Affinity/Club Card registered so that Corpus Christi automatically gets a few pennies on every dollar you spend! It costs you nothing and only takes a few minutes on the computer to get registered. Information is available on the Concierge Shelves on how to do it….and once you do it….every time you use your card, we benefit (at no cost to you!!) Thanks. Also, with the holidays coming up, if you have any large orders for SCRIP gifts, this would be a good time to inform our SCRIP team so that they can be ordered. THANKS!
Please note, Daylight Savings Time ENDS on Sunday, November 7th….set your clocks BACK one hour on Saturday night, November 6th!
You are invited to enjoy the following books and join the Book Club on Monday, Nov.1, at 7:00 P.M., in meeting room 4: Sarah’s Key by Tatiana de Rosnay and/or The Boy Who Came Back From Heaven by Kevin Malarkey.
There is nothing spooky about providing food for our hungry neighbors…so, please note that our next food collection effort to benefit the South County Outreach Food Pantry will occur NEXT weekend, October 30-31. Bring your non-perishable food items on that weekend and drop them in the special hamper on the courtyard. Thanks.
Perhaps you know someone who could benefit from this information? The Department of Homeland Security is funding a special citzenship program project through Catholic Charities of Orange County. This pilot project can assist you in becoming a U.S. citizen, naturalization applications, pictures, citizenship and USCIS interview prep and follow–up for cases with problems. For more information please call 714-347-9610. Thanks.
Our next Corpus Christi Diner’s Night will be THIS Thursday, October 28th at the ELEPHANT BAR in the Laguna Hills Mall. We hosted there once before and it received high reviews…and they are giving us 20% back from ALL our food purchases THROUGHOUT the day…so come for lunch or come for dinner…but the Elephant Bar on October 28th is no trick and ABSOLUTELY a TREAT!! Look for the flyer in next weekend’s Bulletin.
Our thanks and appreciation again go out to Theresa Vinciguerra, Aliso Viejo parishioner/realtor extraordinaire, for her hefty rebate from a recent parishioner home sale. As part of her ongoing stewardship to Corpus Christi, Theresa V. donates 10% of commissions from Corpus Christi parishioner sales/purchases to our Building Fund. If you are buying or selling a home…why not give Theresa V. a call at 949-939-5188. Thanks.
Our Autumn Sacramental Prep Session approaches…
A reminder, our parish policy is that any family seeking the Sacrament of Baptism, First Reconciliation or First Eucharist, Marriage, needs to have been a REGISTERED PARISHIONER for a minimum of THREE MONTHS prior to attending any Sacramental Prep Sessions and/or the setting of any Sacramental dates. (Thus, someone registering today would be attending the early-2011 Prep session, not the November session….followed by another call after the session to schedule a date for their child’s reception of Sacraments….not register and schedule at the same time.)
Our next Sacramental Preparation Session for families of children desiring First Reconciliation and First Eucharist here at Corpus Christi is scheduled for Saturday, November 13th at 2:30 p.m., concluding with the 5:00 p.m. Mass. Please note that participation at one of our quarterly Sacramental Prep Sessions prior to scheduling a First Reconciliation and First Eucharist is a parish requirement.
You will receive your Sacramental Registration Form at the conclusion of the session. This policy is binding for ALL families, both those who have multiple children (who may have already received one or more First Eucharists, fresh attendance at the Sacramental Prep for each child is necessary) and for those approaching the Sacraments for the first time. Pre-registration is necessary (no drop-ins), please contact Susie Hays at 389-9008 to receive the necessary paperwork.
It is important to note that these Sacramental Preparation Sessions augment but DO NOT replace our parish policy of parents teaching their own children the essentials of our faith and introducing their own children to the person of Jesus Christ. These Prep Sessions are final steps to ensure that parental education has indeed been happening.
A word of caution: we have been alerted that a recent e-mail scam/fraud effort is occurring on the Internet. In our appreciation for help with the Clergy Community Day we neglected to mention Jim McGrath and Bing Fider!! Sorry for the oversight….THANK YOU Jim and Bing for your help and support that day!
Thanksgiving will be here before you know it….
Our annual Parish Thanksgiving Dinner is a wonderfully huge success. Over the years we have heard assorted well-meaning suggestions to charge $5 or $10 per person….and we have always refused…as we continue to do. There are certain events that should NOT be fundraisers but simply be opportunities for our family to come together and take pleasure in who we are. Throughout the year we endeavor to have a range of fund-raising efforts that span the financial range, from low to high end In between we sprinkle a variety of ‘freebies’ that add sparkle to our parish life: our Anniversary Receptions, Margarita Night….and our Thanksgiving Dinner.
This year’s dinner will again be hosted on the Monday of Thanksgiving Week, November 22nd and Scotty Eisenbart will again be coordinating. If you would like to volunteer to be part of Scotty’s Kitchen Team, please make contact with him at: 395-3073. Something NEW that we WILL be starting this year is a more orderly manner of setting up the tables on Sunday, November 21st In past years it has become something of a madhouse rush as people depart from noon mass and people are moving in with tables….snarls are exchanged, mean-spirited looks are thrown around…it is a depressing way to initiate a week of ‘Giving Thanks.’
So…in order to calm our savage beasts and become a bit more organized….while the chairs will still be emptied from the Grand Hall following the Noon Mass on the 21st, THOSE DESIRING TABLES WITHIN THE GRAND HALL WILL NOT BE ALLOWED IN THE Grand Hall UNTIL 4:00 p.m. AND THEY WILL BE ADMITTED BASED ON A FIRST COME-TICKETED-NUMBER SYSTEM!!!!
We are renting an additional 50 rectangular tables for the outdoors and 300 extra chairs…. So…start making your plans…and what you are going to bring to the most fabulous feast of the year….THANKSGIVING but let’s keep it orderly and peaceful!
