Karen Crocker, who has spent more than 20 years working for the City of San Juan Capistrano, has been named Aliso Viejo’s new Community Services Director. She starts working October 25.
Karen will fill the post held by Helen Wilson who recently retired after working nearly a decade with this City, which incorporated in July 2001.
Karen comes to Aliso Viejo with more than 36 years of experience in the recreation and community services field. She began her tenure with San Juan Capistrano in February of 1990 as a community services manager. She was promoted to the director position in April 2005.
Karen is credited with identifying and providing an array of programs and services throughout the years to meet the growing needs of San Juan Capistrano residents. Her enthusiasm and leadership abilities helped to take the vision of that City’s Los Rios Park from a concept to a reality. Her ability to foster teamwork brought staff, the community and local businesses together to achieve a park that enhances the vitality of the neighborhood and Los Rios District.
Possessing a wealth of knowledge in recreational management and programming, Karen is seasoned in aquatics, special events, sports programs, camps, after-school programs, early childhood development, facility management, park development and senior citizens.
City Manager Mark Pulone said Karen is the perfect fit for this City, which continues to expand an array of programs and services to benefit residents.
“I’m really excited to have Karen join the City team,” he said. “She is exceptionally qualified for the position and she’s going to be a tremendous asset to our organization.”
Karen said she will miss San Juan Capistrano but is looking forward to starting a new chapter in Aliso Viejo.
“I am excited about the opportunity to serve the residents of Aliso Viejo and work for a city and community who prides themselves on recreational programs,” she said.
