It¡¦s a Great Day¡K to be a COMET!

School is closed Thursday, Nov. 11 and Nov. 12 due to the Veteran¡¦s Day Holiday

READ AND ROCK¡¦N ROLL FAMILY FUN NIGHT
Wood Canyon was a rock¡¦n and a rollin¡¦ Friday Night. Thank you to our extraordinary hard working Wood Canyon PTA for organizing this amazing event for our families. It was wonderful seeing you all enjoying a night out together and coming together as our Wood Canyon Family.

GRANDPARENT¡¦S DAY-
Thank you to all of the grandparents that visited Wood Canyon friday. The students enjoyed showing off their school and I know the grandparents enjoyed seeing a peek into the daily life of their grandchildren. We appreciate their support by attending our Book Fair. Please let them know how much we enjoyed their visit.

BOOKFAIR AT WOOD CANYON- Our Fall Book Fair will be open through Wednesday, Nov. 10th. We want to thank Inez and Roger Smith for their unwavering support. We appreciate all of the other parent volunteers who volunteered their time and all of our parent community for supporting our school with their purchases. You make a difference!

AFTERNOON PICK-UP GREEN SIGNS- Thank you parents for filling out our new green parking pick up signs. Please put them on the passenger side visor so we can easily call your child. All students are to be picked up in front of the school. There is no pick up in our bus circle. The bus circle is used by parents in our pre school classes for pick- up and drop- off as well as our bus riders. We use the circle as an exit once the buses have been loaded.

On Thursdays, our kindergarten parents should come through the front lot and line up along the service road to the bus circle. We will open our gates to allow you to pick up curbside after our buses have left. Remember it is illegal to leave your car parked in the red and it¡¦s dangerous crossing driveways when cars are not expecting pedestrians. Our goal is to keep all of our families and students safe. Thank you for your help.

ON TIME IN LINE AWARDS Parents it is important that students start their day off on a positive note. When they are at school on time, they receive the maximum amount of instruction and directions when they are not late. We will begin our On Time In Line incentive program again to reward classrooms for number of students who are not tardy. Help your child¡¦s class be recognized by having them here on time. Congratulations to Mrs. Hebbard/Steven¡¦s class! They received special recognition and treat today for their great attendance record.

MORNING READING BOOKS Please continue to encourage and check that your child has a book that stays in their backpack each day. (Many students are saying they left it in their classroom. It might be good to have 2 books, one in the backpack and 1 for the classroom. This will help young readers learn what life readers¡¦ know-keeping a book with you alleviates boredom! To become good readers we know that students must read and read and read. Thank you for your support!

CELEBRATION BOOKS LIBRARY DONATION Purchasing a book for the Wood Canyon Library is a great way to honor your child¡¦s birthday, applaud a major accomplishment, recognize good grades or just proclaim your child as an outstanding Wood Canyon Comet. In recognition of your donation to the library, your child is recognized by Principal Overstreet during the Friday morning flag salute and a ¡§Book Plate¡¨ will be affixed to the inside cover of your book selection announcing, ¡§This book was donated in your child¡¦s honor!¡¨ Recognitions of book donations are presented every Friday at 7:45 am. Book Club Forms can be picked up in the office. Donating a book to the Wood Canyon Library is a wonderful tribute for your child that all Wood Canyon students can enjoy for many years.

Water Bottle Wednesday
We have officially kicked off our recycling program at Wood Canyon Elementary School! Every Wednesday for the remainder of the school year, we will be collecting plastic water bottles and aluminum cans. When you bring your child to school, drop off your water bottles and aluminum cans with a volunteer at the front of the school or the back of the school (inside the gates, near the bus loop). This program has the potential to raise up to $3,000 for our kids at Wood Canyon Elementary. This is also a great opportunity to teach our children about the importance of recycling and the benefit to ourselves and our planet! Think GREEN!! Sign up today and work side by side with your child on collection days. Right now, we are looking for 2-3, 5th grade parents to work each Wednesday in November from 7:20am-8:15am, and 2-3, 4th grade parents to work each Wednesday in December from 7:20am-8:15am. Each grade level will participate for at least one month during this school year. Please help! For more information contact Katie at ndurmystar@aol.com .
