VETERANS DAY HOLIDAY: School is closed on Thursday, November 11th in honor of Veterans Day and will remain closed on Friday, November 12 for a Fall Recess Day. Veterans Day originally was held every November 11th, and though it typically falls on this day, officially the holiday is now observed on the weekday that falls closest to November 11th every year.
It was first incorporated by President Wilson as Armistice Day in 1919. Other countries today also still recognize November 11th as Armistice Day or Remembrance Day in honor of the Armistice treaty which ended World War I. It was in 1938 that Armistice Day was enacted as an official American holiday. But eventually after WWII, citizens felt that the veterans of all wars should be recognized, not just those of WWI. So in 1954, Congress changed the name from Armistice Day to Veterans Day. In America, the holiday now celebrates the approximate 2.9 million U.S. veterans with parades and ceremonies among other events.
ECO FABULOUS CATALOG ORDERS: Due to the positive response and the fact that the school will be closed for 2 days next week, the order due date has been extended to Monday, November 15, 2010. Please return your order form with payment to school; either by sending with your child or by placing your order in the Eco Fabulous Order Bin located in the school office. If paying by check, please remember to make your check payable to John Malcom PTA. As an added benefit, if you order through Malcom PTA, you will not be charged shipping/handling and applicable taxes. Please note that if an item is listed in the MixedBag Catalog but not listed on the order form, the item is sold-out and no longer available for purchase. THE LOADING DOCK: Drivers, please help make drop-off and pick-up times fast and smooth by following these procedures:
• Pull up as far as you can to allow as many cars as possible to enter the Loading Dock.
• After loading or unloading, pull as far to the left of the Loading Dock to exit.
• If possible, have backpacks with your child rather than in the trunk.
• Refrain from talking on cellphones (it is illegal, after all, to do so without a hands-free device!).
WATER BOTTLE WEDNESDAYS: Keep bringing in your CRV water bottles and aluminum cans! Our container is almost full, which means $$$$$ for Malcom!!
