“CRats” Quart Size Bags of Supplies Mailed Easier – Malcom Elementary

Date:

SLAM Community Service Project for November: CRat Supplies for Operation Interdependence

For the week of November 15-19 Malcom students have an opportunity to help a local organization called Operation Interdependence, with supplies they can package and ship to our men and women serving in Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan. This group puts together quart size bags of supplies, dubbed “CRats” which stands for civilian rations, and mails them directly to service personnel serving on the front lines of Afghanistan. Unlike large care packages, these can be shipped and distributed more easily. A quart size baggie is filled with items such as: chapstick, hand sanitizer, small packages of baby wipes, granola bars, Slim Jims, small packages of powdered flavoring for water bottles, hard candies, and small bags of nuts. Inside each bag is included a personal notecard approximately 4 x 6 inches – no envelope.

SLAM hopes to collect many of these items, including boxes of quart size baggies that we can give to Operation Interdependence. We are NOT filling the baggies. We are only collecting the necessary supplies and writing cards so that they can fill the bags. Malcom students, please use first names only when writing a note. Just think, 50 “crats” fit into a 12 inch square box. 100 boxes will reach 5,000 troops! Your SLAM Representatives from Ms. Reimer’s 5th grade class, are hoping every Malcom Mariner will be able to help with this project! Bring your items to school and place them in the boxes on the stage before the Morning Flag Ceremony.
