Comerica Bank Donates $35,000 to food banks across California and Arizona

Date:

Contributions for food will go to Fresno, Los Angeles, Orange, San Diego, San Francisco, Santa Clara counties in Calif. and Phoenix, Ariz.

SAN JOSE, Calif., Nov. 22, 2010 – Seven community non-profit agencies that deliver meals and holiday turkeys to people in need are receiving donations from Comerica Bank.

The selected non-profit food banks serve families and individuals in seven counties where Comerica Bank has offices – Fresno, Los Angeles, Orange, San Diego, San Francisco and Santa Clara counties in Calif. and Maricopa County, Ariz.

“In this economic downturn many families living in communities where our Comerica colleagues live and work are struggling,” said Mike Fulton, Comerica’s Western Market President & CEO. “I am pleased to announce that Comerica is donating $5,000 each to seven community food banks in Calif. and Ariz. in hopes of making this Thanksgiving a little more joyous.”

The recipients of Comerica Bank’s grants are:
• Feed Hope Community Food Bank in Fresno, $5,000
• Los Angeles Regional Food Bank, $5,000
• Second Harvest Food Bank of Orange County, $5,000
• Feeding America in San Diego, $5,000
• San Francisco Food Bank, $5,000
• Second Harvest Food Bank of Santa Clara County, $5,000
• St. Mary’s Food Bank Alliance in Phoenix, Ariz., $5,000

“Thanksgiving represents not only a time of thanks, but a time where families gather around the table for a wonderful celebratory meal,” said Crystal Ulrich, associate director of donor services and campaigns for Second Harvest Food Bank of Santa Clara and San Mateo Counties. “Unfortunately, for many in our community funds simply aren’t available to purchase the food we think of for a traditional Thanksgiving meal. Comerica Bank’s gift of $5,000 to Second Harvest Food Bank will help provide Thanksgiving meals to thousands of families in Santa Clara County.”

The food banks will be using the grants for their special Thanksgiving food program:
• At the Second Harvest Food Banks in San Jose and Irvine the Comerica grant will buy complete holiday meals as part of each food bank’s “Operation Gobble” campaign.
• In the Central Valley, Feed Hope will use the Comerica donation to create 20,000 Holiday Meal Boxes, which provide families with Thanksgiving Day meals they can prepare at home.
• More than 35,000 families, low-income seniors and families throughout San Francisco will receive food for Thanksgiving meals because of the Comerica donation.
• In San Diego, Feeding America will be able to purchase 2,000 turkeys with the Comerica funds; the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank will be also providing turkeys to their food pantry partners.
• The Comerica funds donated to St. Mary’s will go towards the food bank’s goal of delivering 35,000 meals to families in need in the Phoenix area.
