College Education
with Instructor Walt Lawson
Walt Lawson worked as a Counselor at Laguna Beach High School for 30 years and for the last 15 of those years,
was responsible for the Scholarship Program and Financial Aid Program.
He has continued to teach on this topic for the last 12 years through Community Education Programs.
A two-evening class that will provide detailed information on the Financial Aid Process and is especially designed for parents of seniors. The class includes a line-by-line completion of the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) form and discussion of strategies to provide financial information; the FAFSA must be completed each year of college to be eligible for Financial Aid and accurate completion the first year will make the process easier in succeeding years.
Parents of underclassmen can get an early jump on understanding the process of college financial aid by taking the class before their students are seniors. Handouts are provided and participants will organize a strategy to assess financial aid offers from colleges. Other topics include estimating a yearly college budget and accessing the six major sources of financial aid.
