Local students host art show at City Hall, more groups sought to follow suit

Date:

The artwork of several students from Don Juan Avila Middle School and Aliso Niguel High School now adorns the walls of Council Chambers at City Hall, as part of a city program to recognize and showcase the talents of Aliso Viejo youth.

The art work is part of the National PTA Reflection Program, an arts recognition and achievement program for students. The Reflections Program provides opportunities for students to express themselves creatively and receive positive recognition for original works of art inspired by a pre-selected theme, while increasing community awareness on the importance of the arts in education.

For the last year or so, the city has welcomed art from local students and youth organizations to display as “art shows” on the walls of Council Chambers. Groups such as the local YMCA, Boys & Girls Club of Laguna Beach and most recently the Aliso Viejo Branch of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Capistrano Valley have all showcased their artwork at City Hall.

In fact, at the City Council’s Dec. 1 meeting, Mayor Phil Tsunoda recognized members of the Aliso Viejo Branch of the Boys & Girls Club for their outstanding artwork and assistance with his “Aliso is Wonderland” State of the City in October.

The students’ artwork went up yesterday and will remain on display until Feb. 17.

Any school or local youth group interested in hosting an art show at City Hall is encouraged to contact Gracie Duran at 949-425-2519 or gduran@cityofalisoviejo.com.
