OPERATION INTERDEPENDENCE: We just received the following thank you for our recent Community Service project, organized by SLAM:

Dear John Malcom Students & Staff:
In the 3 plus years I’ve volunteered with Operation Interdependence I have not been as touched by donations as I have been by yours. We squeak by month to month even though we work out of a church – so to see 4 boxes of wonderful items arrive is amazing. But what truly touched my heart were all the cards and notes. Many of the Christmas notes were packed last Thursday and the rest will go out this Thursday to the 5th Marine Regiment in Afghanistan.
In January, we’ll begin to pack and send the donations, and we always include at least one note (usually mine)! We have it on good authority that Marines have been known to carry a child’s note or drawing with them for their whole tour of duty! It is so important that they know they are remembered, thought of, prayed for.
Since our bags are so small, they often go to the men and women at the very front lines, who can carry very little – that’s why small things like nuts or baby wipes are so important to them. They have warm water which gets boring, so that’s why the drink mixes are their number one request!
Please let your students know that they will be touching the lives of these men and women for many months to come – probably right through the end of the school year someone will be opening a treat or a note from a Malcom student!
Again, my sincere thanks and appreciation for all the efforts, great donations and especially wonderful cards and notes and artwork!

RUMMAGE SALE A HUGE SUCCESS!! We raised $3,000 for Malcom at our big Rummage Sale last weekend! One of the projects that will take advantage of the money is to spruce up our playground with murals for the handball courts. Any parents with artistic tendencies who would like to help design and paint the murals should contact Debbie West at debbiewest@cox.net

MORE LOADING DOCK REMINDERS: If you arrive early, please do not leave your car running in the Loading Dock. Turn your car off until students come out and the line starts to move. Also, parking in the Loading Dock is not permitted at any time, but particularly during school. If you need to drop something off at school, park on the street and come to the school office. Deliveries are not to be made directly to classrooms.
