Our Mission is Learning. Make Every Day Count!

WINTER BREAK: Please enjoy a peaceful, healthy holiday winter break Monday, December 20th – Friday, December 31st. All CUSD campuses and district offices will be closed during the break. We wish all of our Champion families a joyful holiday season. I look forward to personally wishing you a Happy New Year on Monday, January 3rd when school resumes.

FINAL DAY TO PURCHASE SMENCILS: Our final Smencil sale time is tomorrow before school and at first recess.

MR. HEALY: Kindergarten Music Program in HOF: EB/Gauthier @ 8:20. LO @ 12:20

NO PLASTIC BOTTLE COLLECTION TOMORROW: The Green Team and Girl Scouts are postponing the regularly scheduled drop off day until we return from break. Please save all of your plastic bottles over the next few weeks, as there is sure to be an abundance of them during this time of year. Plastic bottles will be collected from 7:45-8:00 on January 7th, both in the valet car line and on the blacktop. Contact Nicole Peguero: pegueroinc@hotmail.com with questions.

OPERATION SANTA CLAUS: Thank you to the countless families who have helped make this Holiday a little brighter for families around Orange County!

TECHNOLOGY FUND REFINANCE OFFER: Chaparral parent Dave Arnold with CREMAC Asset Management is donating $1,000 to the Chaparral Technology Fund for every commercial loan his company closes that is referred to him by family/friends of Chaparral. The types of Commercial Loans they are looking to finance are purchase money and refinance loans for $3 million and up. They include Office, Retail, Industrial, Multifamily (5 or more units), Hotel, Motel, and Mini-storage anywhere in the continental United States. If you are looking to refinance a Commercial Loan, please call Dave directly at (949)218-9411 and mention Chaparral Elementary School. Thank you!

HEALTH AND WELLNESS COMMITTEE NEWS:
Tips for Healthy Holiday Eating:
1. Take Control. Eat high protein snack before a party to limit hunger.
2. Keeping a Balance; between foods high in calories and sugar, with more healthy choices.
3. Washing it down. Be aware of the drinks you have as they can add significant calories.
4. Eat smaller portions. Especially at a buffet. Choose items you want most and eat a small portion of each.
5. Eat slowly. Savor each bite and enjoy. It gives body more time to process properly and chances are you will eat less.
6. After a meal, go for a walk with your family to see holiday displays in your neighborhood.
7. Offer to bring a low-calorie dish to holiday parties. Your host might appreciate it, and you’ll know that at least one healthy item will be on hand.
8. Don’t park yourself in front of the buffet at a party. Mingle! You’ll eat more than you would if it was across the room.
9. Avoid fast food. The holiday season can keep you on the go with little time to prepare meals. Fast food may be handy, but often is high in fat. Prepare and freeze quick, healthy meals ahead of time to stay out of the fast food trap.
10. Be realistic. Don’t try to diet during the holidays, just aim to maintain your present weight.
