Led by Coaches Larry Radden and Heidi Ochoa, the Saddleback College Forensics Team finished in sixth place at the Pacific Southwest Collegiate Forensics Tournament hosted by Mt. San Antonio College on December 3-5, 2010 for college students.
“As we look at the numbers of awards the students received at league championships it seems that we are stronger than ever. Some colleges had over 3 times the competitors that we did and yet, we were still able to achieve so much. Our students were honored by advancing to the final rounds in every event they were entered in and that is amazing! Our National league limits each college to their top 14; needless to say, we are looking forward to an outstanding State and Nationals,” said Larry Radden co-director of the Saddleback Forensics team.
“There were 44 schools entered at this tournament. The schools which placed in the top 5 entered more competitors at this tournament. For example, Orange Coast College, the Champions of the tournament, brought with them 52 competitors. This is a huge feat for our 17 competitors, whom managed to hold their own against schools that were positioned at better odds with shear numbers,” said Co-Director Heidi Ochoa. “We are profoundly impressed by our students’ efforts this semester. It is inspiring to work with people who are dedicated to learning and to each other.”
The students and coaching staff owe their successes to Dean Bart McHenry, President Tod Burnett and the Associated Student Government for providing the forensics team with the opportunity to grow.
The Saddleback Forensics Team started in the 1970s and prides itself on offering students the ability to create innovative arguments for future writing and speaking engagements to strengthen their critical thinking skills, and to better communicate with others.
