Aliso Viejo Police Services is asking residents to beware of thefts from vehicles that are taking place almost daily because people leave valuable possessions visible in their cars.
Laptop computers, GPS devices, purses, wallets and other valuables left on seats or car floors – especially in unlocked cars – are enticing thieves to steal items from vehicles.
Prevent theft from your car by taking these precautionary steps:
* When you park the car in your garage, on your residential street, in a parking lot or anywhere, take all valuable possessions with you. Before you reach your next or final destination, put all valuable items in your trunk.
* Lock your car at all times, even during a quick stop at the gas station or convenience store.
* Close all windows. Thieves can unlock vehicles through the smallest openings.
* At night, park in well-lighted areas.
