The Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Dr. Carmen Dominguez, launches its spring season featuring winners of the Annual Music Teachers Association of California Concerto Competition on Saturday, March 12th at 8pm in the McKinney Theatre. This varied program features newly discovered young musical talent. Featured soloists include12 year old violinist Katarina “Kasia” Kosmala-Dahlbeck, who made her Carnegie Hall debut at age 11 by winning First Prize in the Alexander & Buono International Spring Competition. Kasia is a straight A eighth grader at Shorecliffs Middle School and has appeared frequently on stage in the United States and Poland. Shelby Wong, age 12, is a GATE student at Carl Hankey Middle School in Mission Viejo. She began her piano studies with Aleli Tibay and gave her first public performance at the age of four. Trombonist Tyler McGeough is a Saddleback College student currently in the applied music program.

The Music Department has established a comprehensive program which is considered to be one of the finest in California: a complete lower-division curriculum for transferring music majors, numerous performance groups, private and group lessons, a full concert series with faculty and guest artists, and general music courses. The nationally recognized faculty is dedicated to performance and to teaching in all areas such as vocal, instrumental, jazz, guitar and piano. Other music classes include harmony, musicianship, composition, history and appreciation of western art music, rock, jazz and world.

Take Avery Parkway to Marguerite Parkway turn left to the third traffic light, which is Saddleback’s Marguerite entrance. Turn right into the campus and take the second left to “Theatre Circle,” turning right into Lot 12.
