A SYMPHONIC NIGHT AT THE MOVIES:
PACIFIC SYMPHONY PERFORMS LIVE SOUNDTRACK TO ONE OF
THE MOST BELOVED FILMS OF ALL TIME—“THE WIZARD OF OZ”
Evening includes full-length film on the big screen
and Judy Garland’s original vocals
Pacific Symphony Pops takes the audience on a nostalgic trip down the yellow brick road when it recreates—live!—the score to the classic American film, “The Wizard of Oz,” with Judy Garland’s original 1939 studio recordings backed by the full symphony orchestra. Led by Principal Pops Conductor Richard Kaufman, this symphonic night at the movies returns after a popular 2008 Summer Festival performance at Verizon Wireless Amphitheater, but this time the score soars in the pristine acoustics of the Renée and Henry Segerstrom Concert Hall.
Enter the enchanted world of Emerald City, complete with a yellow brick road in the lobby, as the full-length film plays on the big screen and Dorothy, the Tin Man, the Cowardly Lion and the Scarecrow search for the “most wonderful wizard of all” in a land of munchkins, witches, ruby red slippers and unforgettable music.
The audience is invited to come dressed in character and sing along to the award-winning songs such as “We’re Off to See the Wizard,” “If I Only had a Brain,” “Ding Dong the Witch is Dead,” “The Lollipop Guild,” and of course, “Over the Rainbow.” Taking place Thursday-Saturday, April 7-9, at 8 p.m., this Pops performance is ideal for children and families of every generation. Tickets are $25-160; for more information or to purchase tickets call (714) 755-5799 or visit www.PacificSymphony.org.
