Proceeds to benefit Rain Forest Project
Students in the Newhart Middle School Green Club, the ASB (Associated Student Body), and the Newhart PTA are taking the lead in hosting an Earth Day festival to raise community awareness for the importance of going green. The festival which will take place on Friday April 22 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. in the courtyard of the Middle School will feature food, fun, games, and drawings for prizes to go with its educational theme.
The idea for what is expected to be an annual Earth Day event grew out of the efforts of the Newhart Green Club and club founder Sarina Rubin. Formed in 2010, the Newhart Green Club currently has over 40 student members. The club’s intention is to draw attention to what sixth, seventh, and eighth grade students can do to make a difference. “They’re a great group of kids,” said Activities Advisor Lauren Robinson, “and their message is one that we can all learn from. That’s why we’re so excited to be holding this festival and bringing that message to the greater Mission Viejo community.”
