The Saddleback Symphony and College Choirs continue its tradition of presenting great works by performing the music of composer Andrew Lloyd Weber’s The Phantom of the Opera on May 14th and 15th in the McKinney Theatre. The Music Department at Saddleback College is pleased to present this beautiful production with music by Andrew Lloyd Webber, lyrics by Charles Hart, additional lyrics by Richard Stilgoe, book by Richard Stilgoe and Andre Lloyd Webber, originally directed on Broadway by Harold Prince, original Broadway production by Cameron Mackintosh and “The Really Useful Group.” This production is vocally directed by Scott Farthing, musically directed and conducted by Carmen Dominguez and musically staged by Bart McHenry. This production also features Paul Kehler, Karenessa Legear, Nona Watson, Brian Vickery, Helena Wood, Joseph Gumina, Jason Hammond, Emily Price, Christopher Gomez, Stephen Hulsey. The popular story tells of a masked figure that lurks beneath the catacombs of the Paris Opera House, exercising a reign of terror over all its inhabitants. He falls madly in love with an innocent young soprano, Christine, and devotes himself to creating a new star by nurturing her extraordinary talents and by employing all of the devious methods at his command.

The Music Department has established a comprehensive program which is considered to be one of the finest in California: a complete lower-division curriculum for transferring music majors, numerous performance groups, private and group lessons, a full concert series with faculty and guest artists, and general music courses. The nationally recognized faculty is dedicated to performance and to teaching in all areas such as vocal, instrumental, jazz, guitar and piano. Other music classes include harmony, musicianship, composition, history and appreciation of western art music, rock, jazz and world.

Saddleback College is located at 28000 Marguerite Pkwy in Mission Viejo, just east of Interstate 5 at the Avery Parkway exit. Free parking is available in Lot 12. Take Avery Parkway to Marguerite Parkway turn left to the third traffic light, which is Saddleback’s Marguerite entrance. Turn right into the campus and take the second left to “Theatre Circle,” turning right into Lot 12.
