Who: Approximately 100 amateur musicians ages 24 and older from across Orange County have the unique opportunity to play side-by-side Pacific Symphony’s professional musicians, under the baton of Music Director Carl St.Clair. Participants were selected on a first-come, first-served basis when the registration opened in February, with no audition required.
What: “OC Can You Play With Us?” sponsored in part by the MetLife Foundation, offers adult amateur musicians the chance to experience what it is like to perform on stage with a professional orchestra. Two hour-long sessions include a short rehearsal, followed by a mini-performance of movements from Mussorgsky’s “Pictures at an Exhibition.” A reception gives the musicians a chance to mingle socially with the orchestra members. Why: “OC Can You Play with Us?” is the final initiative of a three-pronged project that began in January with “OC Can You Play,” 20 painted pianos installed across Orange County for all to play and enjoy. Then, “OC Can You Sing?” brought amateur singers onto the stage for a singing competition, with the audience voting to determine the winner.
