Bart McHenry presenting Catherine Borsellino with the Dean’s Choice Award for her sculpture To Become One

Saddleback College Art Gallery Director Bob Rickerson is pleased to announce the winners of the Student Art Exhibition held on April 25th through May 11th in the Saddleback College Art Gallery. Students received their awards at an artists’ reception and awards ceremony on May 3rd. With the exception of the President’s and Dean’s Choice Awards, Saddleback College students selected the award winners through a voting process conducted in the gallery from April 25th through April 30th. Over 400 students cast their vote in the categories of painting, printmaking, drawing, ceramics, sculpture, photography and jewelry.

Dr. Tod A. Burnett, President of Saddleback College, stated, “Congratulations to all of our student art exhibitors, whose work is truly awe-inspiring. It was a real pleasure to again see the amazing work of our students, who never fail to impress. Their exceptional talent combined with the displays in our outstanding art gallery make this event a perennial favorite for our community.”

When asked about his impression of the student exhibit this year, Bart McHenry, Dean of Fine Arts and Media Technology, stated, “I was highly impressed with the quality and beauty in this wide-selection of art. I am proud of what our students have accomplished and it is an honor to be a part of the awards ceremony. My selection for the Dean’s Choice Award was a difficult decision. I was drawn to the sculpture I chose titled To Become One by Catherine Borsellino because it symbolized hope and a bright future. This theme resonates with me during my first year at Saddleback College because I believe the Art Department also has a bright future.”
